I'd love to have a product that combines the app organization features of Groupy with the positioning and focus features of Object Dock, along with some of the visual customization features of Start 11.
The idea is basically to create an app that provides users quick access to open apps that they don't want perpetually taking up primary screen real estate.
- The app features adjustable, theme-able slide-out panes, similar in UI/UX to the Windows 10 menu features in Start 11.
- But these Panes essentially function like the app tabs within Groupy. Users can drag and drop apps into the pane, which they can choose to display full-bleed or in 1-3 snapped windows inside the pane. Or, they can apply setting to have specific apps always launch in the Pane at startup. Simpler Windows apps like the timer, calculator, Task Manager, or small UI items like Apple Music's mini player can be fit into a slim side-panel somewhat like a widgets pane for easy reference. Much like Groupy, the apps can be run within the pane and the group of apps can be launched by clicking a taskbar-like icon.
- BUT, somewhat like Object Desktop, these app panes can be set on docks placed at the edges of the desktop screen where the taskbar is not present. When the user mouse hovers then clicks the pane or presses a custom keyboard shortcut, the pane slides out from hiding from it's docked edge. They can be set to fit into layouts similar to Windows Snap panes, sliding out to take up one corner (quarter) of the screen, or a 1/3-1/2 vertical of the right or left sides. The user can click a hide button or press a keyboard shortcut them to re-hide the window when they are done with their task.
It would be a really great place to store apps like Spotify, Discord, browser windows, or Edge/Chrome pages saved as web apps. Or, as mentioned, a place to group widget-like apps + Windows sticky notes. For those with limited room, it would be a great alternative to buying an extra monitor for reference apps.
Thanks for considering!!
