hey guys, its me again. regardless of my somewhat hypocritical argument in my last post, today im gonna do my best to avoid anything way too touchy.anyways, i want to know your thoughts on what a democracy really is.
not too long ago, i looked up the definition of democracy. most dictionaries state that democracy is a form of government in which the people elect leaders who (hopefully) represent the will of the public/majority. that said, i have concocted a theory.
What if..... what if communist china was to change thier government tomorow? and in this change of government, the state still controls alot of the business, still can lock up and execute people who oppose government doctrine, and still keep a police state over the country. what, do you ask, is this change in the government? the only thing that had been changed in the system would be that u get to choose between 2 people who will opress as described above instead of having the state pick the president for you. that said, what makes democracy synonimous with civil rights and liberties exactly? anyways, what i have just said is a theory, not to be taken as a literal event. and my opinion on democracy,well, its just an opinion. what are your ideas? post freely if u like.
