I found out about Servo today through the Nichegamer article. When I read about unit customization, I was instantly reminded of one of the only other RTS games to offer something similar - Warzone 2100.
If you've never heard of it, WZ2100 was a 3D PC RTS published by Pumpkin Studios in the Golden Era of gaming back in 99. It featured, among other things, the ability to completely customize almost every unit you could assemble. You'd select chassis, propulsion method, and armaments and then manufacture units en masse. The tech tree was hideously deep which meant, in an average multiplayer session, you were forced to specialize instead of researching everything; which kept the game dynamic and interesting. It lives on at https://wz2100.net/ through a dedicated fan community.
Suffice it to say, I'm quite excited by what I've seen of Servo. (And because I've been on a mech game binge lately.) So, I've got a few very quick questions and please forgive me if these were answered somewhere else:
- I looked on the Steam Store and on Greenlight and didn't see Servo. When will it be listed?
- Has the payment model been discussed? While I don't expect some hellish Hawken or Blacklight: Retribution 'enjoy being nickeled and dimed' solution, I'd be interested in hearing how the devs plan to sell the game.
- Will the game use only Steam for matchmaking and operation, or will it have some Origin or uPlay-type third party component?
Thanks all, and I'm looking forward to hearing more about the game.
