Politically Correct in NH

Ok... for the record, I have nothing against the phrase "Happy Holidays." At least I didn't until this year. I never thought a thing about it... until it became a substitute for "Merry Christmas" in a blatant attempt to eliminate religion from Christmas. Goodness knows we wouldn't want to offen the what? 8 percent that have a problem with Christmas?

One of my friends is a Science teacher at our local High School and he told me the staff were informed in no uncertain terms that under no circumstances were they to utter the words "Merry Christmas". They had to either say "Happy Holidays" or not address the issue at all.

We went to our younger child's Christmas -- I mean "Holiday" -- concert, and the woman doing the announcing slipped up and said, "Merry... I mean... Happy Holidays!" Then she proceeded to look around, ducking her head as if to avoid some unseen hammer falling. Later in the evening, the kids sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas". They did get to say "Christmas" in the song... but so as to be completely politically correct, the refrain went as follows...

"We wish you a Merry Christmas... we wish you a Happy Hanukkah... we wish you a Happy Kwanzaa and a Happy New Year!"

I sat in my seat and held back a chuckle. Pathetic, I tell ya.

Even the kids ringing the bell for the Salvation Army (you know... that charitable organization run by a CHURCH??) said, "Happy Holidays" to me. I flashed them my widest smile and said, "And a very Merry CHRISTMAS to you!"

I just have to laugh. They want to make sure this isn't a religious holiday... and yet, without Christ... would there even BE a Christmas? How quick would they be to give up the entire season, if push came to shove? Retailers would love THAT, wouldn't they? Of course, the anti-christian liberals would then gripe about our economy and find a way to blame George W for that.

Here's my plan... I think that those who would eliminate Christ from Christmas should all have to work this Sunday...

There was an item on the news here recently about a store owner that had a sign in their window: We wish you a Merry Christmas in this store.  If this bothers you, please, upon entering yell out as loud as you can "Bah, Humbug", and we will then tell you "Happy Holidays".

I like that!

I have no problem with folks saying Merry Christmas. WHy are these bureaucrats so worried? Could it be lawsuits? The ACLU? I think that some schools would be willing to fight this PC horse-pucky but tyhe ACLU has much deeper pockets than most school districts.
I like to twist folks and say, "Happy Candlemas" or "Happy festivus" since I don't hear anyone wishing me a "Happy Buddha's birthday!" when that occurs.....Maybe I should sue!

Brits are trying to change the name to an all-inclusive "Wintervale".

In a bid to further promote Britain as a tolerant, equal and multi-cultural society, the Government has announced a number of formal changes to the English dictionary for 2006, including renaming Christmas as 'Wintervale'.

DeadBrain correspondent Greg Mullet explained: "Just as when Britain moved from the old imperial to the metric weight system, and from LSD to decimal currency, to avoid confusion the Government is allowing writers freedom to use the new and old terms until the transition is complete in 2010. For example, if I were to say 'it is nearly Christmas', I will say from next year 'it is nearly Wintervale (Christmas)'. But after 2010 it will be illegal to write 'it is nearly Christmas'."

Tessa Jowell, Secretary of State for Culture (waste of tax-payers' money), said: "Following intensive research (web surfing) these new words were decided in a thought-shower (brainstorm) in a bid to move away from the Cabinet's (bunch of right-wing, Bush-loving, war-mongering, politically correct, anti-civil-libertarians with no commonsense) deferred success (failure) to achieve a tolerant, equal and multi-cultural society. This is not just a matter of political correctness (bollocks)."

I think the whole thing is ridiculous. I have always said both Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. And when I say Happy Holidays I'm referring to Christmas and New Year's. Of course, I try to remember to wish my Jewish friends a Happy Hanukkah rather than a Merry Christmas--but that is simply an attempt to be polite. I certainly wouldn't be offended if they slipped and wished me a Happy Hanukkah. I mean, how on earth do you get offended by someone wishing you good things?!?!

I recommend everyone watch the Daily Shows bit on this--it's John Stewart commenting on a Bill O'Reilly interview. It's priceless, absolutely priceless!

Well...technically, it wouldn't be "Christmas", but would be called the "Saturnalia festival" or  "Juvenalia".

Has anyone noticed it's not the Jews objecting to the Christmas issue? For many years we've celebrated Christmas big in our country and the Jewish believers quietly put up with us Christians. They didn't bother us and we didn't bother them.

I don't even think it's the Muslims or any other religion that typically doesn't have Jesus as their central religious figure complainiing. At least I've not heard anything. The JW's don't celebrate Christmas either. They keep quiet.

Nope......it's none other than those darn atheists!! What's it to them? Why do they seem so militant when it comes to Chrisitian anything? What's a manger scene going to do that's so harmful? Peace and goodwill? Are they bad words in the world of the Atheists? Do they go after the Muslim holidays with the same vengeance? What are they afraid of? Their children might believe in Jesus? What do they do at Christmas? Hmmmm does anyone out there know?

Jeepers........ok.....I feel better now!!!

Perceptive. Are they using atheism as a disguise? Or are they just ignorant about what label they should be wearing?
