Hmm. If I take an angle with just a black starfield visible, it looks kinda sparse. I think I'd get bored staring at alot of black with the odd object hanging in space. I can see your point though, some of the brighter nebulae can distract from the game objects. I don't know how it will look once ship models have textures on them though, they might stand out better then.

I suppose the answer might be to darken the background slightly to make it less striking, but I think the game needs a backdrop to avoid it looking very empty indeed. As everything is positioned on a flat grid yet is in 3D, the background is needed to add the illusion of depth.

I agree with Ugleb, maybe a different background would be better, but I definitely don't want just a plain starfield, it would get too monotonous.

I don't really have a problem with the current either, it's not too distracting to me, but I could see how some might be annoyed with it.

Maybe an option to toggle the nebulae would be best, or even a new slider to change the brightness of the backdrop. Obviously I'm not a big proponent of customization, and I'd rather not have anything taken out if it can be helped. I'd rather it was possible to toggle it instead >8).

I'll add the feature request for options to customize the background.

Modders will loooove that one.
