Damn administration....

I look at all the paper work i need to do before i go, and i'm already discouraged.

I will be moving to New Caledonia on the 15th of August 2005.

I had a french passport until I turned 20. But when I came back to Vanuatu thinking i'd spend the rest of my life here, I took the Vanuatu passport and citizenship. The Vanuatu law says you're entitle to own only the Vanuatu passport if you ask for it and give up your previous one. I left mine at the French Embassy who assured me I could take it back whenever i wanted to.

So now is the time. My french passport is still valid. But now I need to have my French identity card. I used to have it, but I lost it. To make a new one i have to provide all this documents and the most important one is my Dad's Certificate of French citizenship. And we have no idea where it is My Dad thought it was with the Embassy in his file, but i went there this morning and the girl said they just have a copy of his passport, identity card and birth certificate along with other documents.

It's a total pain. Without my ID, I wont be recognized as french event though i'm a bearer of the French Passport.

Grrr, damn the administration, i'll have to travel to the island my parents used to live in and dig among their belongings to check where the hell's the certificate. Heh, it's not so bad, I had to go there anyway to get my diplomas... But damn, I hate having to do all this for some piece of paper.

I know how you feel. Paperwork everywhere! Paperwork for this, paperwork for that, it's such a waste of time and money. But hey, someone somewhere needs a job pushing pencils, don't they?

Yes, i know, it's a nightmare...
Need any help movin'? I have lot's of experience moving furniture and stuff...

It's okay for the moving itself. I'll have a couple of suitcases and probably a box. Dont have that much to move around. I'lve started going through the things i need and the things i'll just give away. I dont have any furniture so that's not a problem in iself But thanx for asking

IG, sorry for the red tape (seems that is the only product a government can really produce!).  I gather that you have dual citizenship?

Your article actually put a lot of questions in my mind.  I think most of the people here at JU (with a few exceptions in Australia perhaps), know where you live and a very brief history of the Area (centering around WWII battles), but are completely clueless about the politics of Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

SO the short question is, why cant you use your Vanuatu Passport?

But the longer question is, and should you chose to accept this assignment, this blog will self destruct in 30 seconds....

Wait!  Sorry, that the wrong movie.

Any way, the longer question is how are things structured down there as far as moving from Island to Island on both travel and residency?  I would really enjoy reading more about the area, and how things work.  I know that is a tall request, so I leave it up to you.

IG, I do hope the paperwork sorts itself out for you. There is nothing worse than being trapped by red tape. Good luck with it all.

Dr Guy, I'm curious as to why would you think this? Vanuatu and New Caledonia are favourite holiday destinations for a lot of Australians. Also, remember, Australia was involved in WWII as well.

Thanks maso, apparently to get my Dad's citizenship certificate I have to contact Nantes' municipal council (or something like that?) and they can issue it. Dont know how long it'll take, ugh!

Yes it's true, i noted this in his comment but forgot to reply to it! Heh! And yeah, most of our tourism income comes from Australia and New Zealand, same for New Caledonia but they get a high French and Japanese clientele as well.

Well he's totally computer illeterate, even with his mobile phone he has a hard time remembering how to read the messages! AND another problem, he hates writing english, speaking it isnt too much of a problem, but writing it is another story. I could be his secretary when i get over there
