OK, religion 101, cliff notes addition;
Mohhamed was the 3rd prophet to bring God's word to the people for the last time.
The 1st prophet was Moses, and the second prophet was Jesus.
The people of the book were Jews and Christians, and Islam is based on the same ancient writtings.
The Koran is the literal text of the actual words of God ( Allah in Arabic ) channeled through Mohhamed.
This is what muslims believe, Mohhamed was beautified by God to give the peoples of earth one last chance to get this religion thing right. The Jews had perverted the laws handed down to Moses, and, at the time, few believed Jesus was a genuine prophet, and his pacifist ways did not bode well in the tribal society that was and is the middle east.
The fundamentalist tend to take the Koran literally in its teaching of conversion or anhilation, the problem with that is the Koran expressly gives christians and jews a free pass, as those faiths are "brothers of the book". It seems historically those pesky Europeans during the Crusade period
didn't ascribe to the same exclusionary practice, throw in colonization throughout later centuries, and history, not prophetic conjecture, fosters Arabic ill will.
Lastly, the US didn't exist in the 7th century, so if a great flood was predicted, it was likely described to impact the Empires of the day.........
