So Many Questions: For me, being alone is : going to the movies, watching it without interruptions from friends, family, and thinking about the movie without all the chatter afterwards!
Being lonely for me is going to the movies without a loved one, and not being able to hear and see them laugh, not being able to share the popcorn and share thoughts and feelings about the movie afterwards......
I can be alone, and be just fine
as long as I still have the loved ones in my life! without them, it's lonely, and it is............

Thank you so much for your reply to my rambling, complaining blog! I really love the first quote - I think that I shall be using that as my mantra from now on. The whole power balance situation in relationships is totally beyond my comprehension. I too used to be too proud to let anyone know how I felt and made a conscious decision to change it. Now I'm wondering if it was such a brilliant idea!

I've kind of come to the conclusion that there is nothing that can be done to rectify things between that guy and I, even though he reckons he'll do anything to make the friendship work. The funny thing is that (WARNING: Gross arrogance approaching) I add more to his life than he does to mine. I've a tonne of mates and things to do where as he's quite closed off with only a couple of mates and laments the fact that his life is so boring. Even as I'm writing this I am wondering why the hell I even like this guy! Stupid foolish heart.

Now... away from my boring dilemmas and on to you. It took me a while to realise the difference between being alone and being lonely. There's nothing worse than the loneliness you feel when you're in the middle of a crowd or surrounded by people you know. I guess the fact that people are so readily available yet you can't connect with them makes it so much more obvious. I hope you're not feeling too lonely right now. I appreciate my time alone – but only when it is by choice!

The situation with that guy sounds tough. There’s nothing worse than when you finally let the walls down for someone and they decide to turn their attention elsewhere. It’s almost like ‘Why did I do that when you were only going to walk away anyway?’ However, as you said, you have learned to show different sides of yourself through this guy. Whilst you may be missing him like mad and be upset about how things panned out, you have a great lesson to take with you. While he may have been helpful in getting you to discover different sides of yourself, you’re the one who actually did the work. Having someone there gave you the courage, but you were the one who was prepared to give something new a try. And I say good on you!

I think we agree that nothing cures a broken heart but time. Be kind to yourself and please learn the good things from your experience with this guy. :Little kids accept that they will fall over and hurt themselves a million times before they learn how to walk. They take it in their stride and don’t let it get in the way of what they want. We have to learn to do it too.
