I was reading through the white house press conference transcript yesterday, and I found an extremely telling example of how seriously this administration takes religion and morality:

Are you saying that there was no killing in the iraq war or that the 10 commandments don't apply to religious republicans as long as they hate gays enough?


Have you forgotten that these clowns attacked us? Shooting at Naval and Airfrorce jets in a no-fly, non-combat zone is considered an attack in anyones book. And that's why the 2 are mutually exclusive.

*not including victims of holy wars, fags, witches, Jews, scientists, Muslims, people who don't believe the earth is the center of the universe, abortion doctors, convicts in Texas, people we blacklist as heretics, and people who pray to a different supreme being or beings

It's funny how Republicans like to bash homosexuality (using the Bible) to say it is undermining their marriages -there are three vague references to homosexuality in the Bible (one in Leviticus which is in the same book telling people not to wear two different types of cloth) - yet they get up in arms when programs for the poor are rolled out (3,000 verses in the Bible on taking care of the poor).

One has to admire their ability to keep the blinders on and plug ahead at all costs.

"Thou Shalt Not Kill." Period, end of commandment. Not "Thou Shalt Not Kill, Unless Iraq shoots at your planes over their country."

If someone is telling you to kill in God's name, or that it is somehow okay, they're wrong. I don't care if you're Christian, Muslim or Jewish. The three share enough of the same tradition that it should be pretty clear that you can't do that.

So basically what moderatorman and drmiller are saying is that the 6th commandment is BS.

Well you certainly did surprise me... Did you hear that in church or did God tell you?

It's amazing that sometimes when republicans are presented with the hypocracy of their views, for some reason they always want someone to rape a liberal's wife and children. " IF Your Wife were raped, and killed, you'd agree with my crazy barbaric ideas!" Gun Control, Death Penalty, etc... somehow it always comes back to raping the liberal's family.

do not think i did not NOTICE that masterfull liberal sidestep of my question...I have killed before, and would kill in a heartbeat if my family was threatened, I do not fool myself with some abstract high ideals. I know what man is and what man is capable of women too.

You side-stepped the issue. Let me fix that for you. FORGET the rape part. Someone kills your child/ your mother/your brother/ your father/ your wife. NOW what are you going to do about it?

What's funny is that Bill Clinton claims to be a Christian, and yet he sent people to Bosnia to KILL other people. Kennedy too send people to other countries to KILL other people, and he's a Catholic! Even FDR sent people to Japan and Germany to KILL others, and something tells me he was a Christian too. Makes you think.
So, are you saying that we should have let Hitler kill everybody since killing his Nazi soldiers violates the sixth commandment?

I'd do pretty much what everyone else has done who's had this happen to them: Call the police, Call my family, their family, maybe cry a little, arrange the funerals, get counseling, take some time off from work, clean their rooms, WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PONT? Is there some magic way you're going to make this relavent to the original post?

If I were the president and some idiot reporter asked me that, I'd just look it in the eye and quote Exodus 15: 3-5: , "The Lord is a man of war: The Lord is His name. Pharoah's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea. The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone". Then I'd throw the ball back in it's court and ask "what is your feelings on bearing false witness". Then watch the lying journalist squirm.

Well, if you're a Christian, the New Testament and teachings of Christ supercede all of the Old Testament (J.C. even points this out when asked, "Which of the Commandments is the Greatest"). He says that "Love thy neighbor as yourself" and specifically states that is more important than all of the commandments.

He also says, if someone slaps you on one cheek, turn and give him the other one to hit. So go ahead, slap away guys. It's all you seem to be good at.

On an interesting note, Ghandi said, "An eye for an eye, leaves the world blind."

I have ideals, sqrrldrw, but I'm also a realist. Sure, it might be hypocritical of me to condone the killing of the Nazi soldiers in WW2, but I'm sure most people in the world prefer the action we took over the action we could have taken that would have involved no killing of any kind by the US, which would have given Hitler a free ride to European domination.

If he lied about WMD, so did Kerry, the UN, and every member of the House and Senate who voted for war based on them. Face it, WMD was never the only reason for going to war with Iraq, and your pathetic insistence that it was is a bigger lie than any of them may have told.

And don't bore me with filth about how they were all relying on intel that was skewed by Prs. Bush. To believe that, you have to believe that Congress has no more responsibility than to sit around waiting for information from the White House. They all stood to be counted, so either hold them to their word, or admit that every senator and house member who voted for war, lied along with Prs. Bush.
