I'm from the left, I have one wish, this is that one day politicans will try to do what is best for us and discuss issues in this context, not the usual muckracking we see today. By this I mean most political groups spend more time bitching about each other than they do actually putting their idaes into practice, this happens the world over. Imagin if just once we had a government and an opposition that did what we elected them for, that is Govern, yo know simple things like tackling poverty, by searching for the right answers instead of arguing over who is more suited to find them...... I could go on but I'm sure most people would agree that politics and not the people are what drive politicans, and oppositions spend most of their time undermining the government of the day , hoping that if they make them look bad enough they will win government at the next election. I may be naive, but I always thought an opposition should review what the Government proposes and 1) decide if it is right if not then offer ammendments which may improve it, I know this does not happen, as in Australia Parliament is broadcast live and a majority of the time we don't get any of this type of debate, as a matter of fact I have had the misfortune of listening to our parliment debate for days over whether the speacker of the house should be censored for percieved favouritism of his/her own party, another time they spent days discussing some small point of order that pertains to whether a question was correct or not, in essence most of the time they just fight over points of or which are meaningless, not how to help our problems with the origional people of Australia, or improving the hospital system, or better roads, education. I of course recoginise that it is up to the electors to effect change, however it is up to the parties to grow up and live up to the expectations of the generald populace not the party orginisation, who are not elected and have no right to dictate policy, other than to lobby their points of view, government is for the people, politics somehow has become all encompasing to a point that it is more like a competition like football than an administrative executive that was designed to represemt the views of the population not the small amount of views stated by the party itself. Yes we do vote for a party based on ideology and what they propose to do, but e do not vote for the party apparatus, nor do we vote for a contest in the house, we vote for representation of ourselves, so government can be manageible, parties forget this, I for one will now vote for who I can see who is doing this, not an ideology , but for real policies and actions, and even if I think the Prime Minister is a dickhead, if i feel the party as a whole has performed well not matter what side I will vote for them, at least this gives me the opportunity to look at the elected government and assess them for myself rather than letting others do this for me, eg the party .
