Fences on top of other windows

Still not implemented

Hi Stardock.

It took a long time time to get Fences to the most ultimate desktop organizer for shortcuts on the desktop.

But, I have to add, the almost.

The TAB feature is perfect, all the other stuff you have implemented is just the same.

When you want to have Fences being over on top of other windows you have to click the 'show Fences' button in the Taskbar.
It will put the selected Fence / Tab and its contents over other windows. Perfect!

But, and here is the but, when the Windows focus has changed to another window/app, the overlay of Fences is gone. If you made the right selection in your screen, no problem, if you did not , bummer...

What I like to see in the next update is quite simple, at least, TMHO. Make the process behind the Taskbar Button also part of the actual Fences display on screen.

Here is a picture. And just give the 'Fence' button the same possibilities as it has in the Taskbar. You could even decide to let go of that Taskbar item.

Would be nice to get a reaction, but nevertheless, you make nice things!

Sorry to hear you're running into issues. Just to clarify—are you asking if it's possible for Fences to stay on top while still allowing interaction with the windows underneath?

I noticed you suggested placing the "bring to front" button directly on the Fence itself. That’s an interesting idea! But I’m wondering—if the Fence is already behind an open window, how would you access that button to bring it forward?

If you could configure it through adding (creating) an "Enable Fence/s permanently on top of other windows" option in the Configure Fences window during setup or during the work you're doing (minimizing the work window/s for a moment). A check box could also enable a button in the Fence title bar.

Just a thought. The proposed button is an interesting idea.

As mentioned before, Fences work on desktop level so it can not actually appear on top of the desktop. Hence, from what I notice, when Fences forced to appear on top, whatever you can see under the Fences actually Frozen. You can not work with it until Fences no longer appear on top. Remember, Fences do not work like Docks.

Hi Basj,

thanks for the reply. When the Fences Bar is behind another window the user could do 2 things, move (or close) the covering window or use the Taskbar Icon - which means that the Taskbar F icon should stay as it is now.

I have the Fences Tabs in the top of my screen, all windows I open are positioned below the Fences Bar.

When I want to start another application I go to the Tab I want to open. But when the content of that Tab is not completely visible, I have to go down to the Taskbar, click the 'F' tab, go back o the top of my screen and hit the desired Tab.

And no, I don't want to keep the Fences always on top. The functionality how Fences now works is fine. The only thing I would like to see is an easy method to get the 'on top' function activated.
