How to get random .png files to work on objectdock

For years and years, when I look for new icons for objectdock, i'll find great .png files that just aren't recognized by ojbectdock. In other words, I put the .png file in the appropriate stardock folder, but when I go to change the icon for an objectdock shortcut, the .png file doesn't show up in that folder.

And to make matters worse, I can physically drag that .png file into objectdock and it will work like all the other icons. So the objectdock software clearly "understands" the file. But I am simply unable to select it for any working shortcut.

It's a desktop pc running windows 10 64bit.

But as I said, this has been happening for years and years, all the way back to Windows XP days.

FWIW, the icons I get from wincustomize all seem to work.

Hello,

As been reported in other Threads Object Dock is Not Supported 

in Windows 10 . Some are reporting that some features may work

and other features Not .

Maybe others might have an answer to your .png question.

this has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with windows 10. period.

as I stated, this has been the case all the way back to windows xp. some of the .png files I have found online have worked, but most do not.

this is an issue of why random .png files do not work in ANY version of windows.

I just found a post on a random forum stating that the .png file needs to be square, like 256x256 or 512x512. And I see that the 3 most recent .png files I tried were not square.

So how do I adjust this? If I change it in mspaint, it will lose the transparency.

Turns out that the icons do in fact have to be square.

It's been a while since I looked online for image resizers, but I found a good one that only took a couple of mouseclicks.

for compress png resize i suggest this handy tool : jpeg compress
