Astonishingly, the Linux community did not take advantage of the Windows 8-8.1-10 debacle and their User base languishes with less than Apple acceptance in the Residential space. But the potential is huge for StarDock who lives in this space.
Stardock has the opportunity to take advantage of Microsoft's Windows as a PAID Service move. I believe their current deafness to their largest User base (the Keyboard and Mice) will continue and many of these Users will be begging for an alternative Desktop OS that runs Locally on their Computers and leave Windows as a Service.
Linux for ex Ubuntu is so close as a replacement but the development community won't go the last mile so to speak to make it EASY for K/M Windows users to move to Linux (for ex they just don't get that the users who might come in droves don't want/won't do line level coding).
Imagine Start 10 interface on Ubuntu. It would make Linux immediately familiar to the uninitiated. And Startdock could reap the rewards (and lead the charge) if you would just attach your Start Ubuntu links to the appropriate Linux functions.
Now there are some Functions that still are not enabled or sensibly accessed in Linux. This is where you could earn extra points (think Loyalty). For ex if one wants to change the boot order for the OS (say Windows 10 and Ubuntu) you still have to archaically edit GRUB (or learn how to download and install a utility (another incredibly un-simple exercise). The more idiosyncrasies you resolve like this the more Start Ubuntu you would sell.
Frankly, most of what Linux needs is reorganization of their UI to the more familiar and Most Optimum user interface in history the Windows 7 Start and Menus if they want to significantly increase K/M users. And because Start Ubuntu would be an ad-on the current Linux users would not object as their UI would not change.
