I can't tell if this is you being upset at me criticizing StarDock/SoaSE or I just don't understand your post. Either way, simple fact is Barren can support a higher population than the other types. It is much better in every way than, say, the Greenhouse type which seems to have very little going for it. Finding a Barren planet in the very early game is practically a gold mine so yes, this planet type is probably overpowered. It's too good for requiring no research.
