Economically, deserts outperform terrans...
Terrans have max population 280 which results in 7.0 credits per second...deserts have max population 190 which results in 4.75 credits per seconds...
So on tax income, terrans are 2.25 credits better, but only at 100% allegiance....
Consider that deserts have 3 extra logistic slots...that's (in theory) 3 extra trade ports, which at bare minimum will be 3 extra credits...
So even with no trade modifiers and 100% allegiance, the desert still outperforms the terran...factor in trade modifiers and allegiance, and the desert blows the terran out of the water...
Even if the barren has no population or tax income, the 5 extra trade ports will easily outperform the terran if you factor in allegiance and typical trade bonuses...
Basically, deserts are always better than terrans unless you have no trade bonuses and outrageous bonuses to allegiance....and, unless it is a HW or a planet one jump from the HW, the barren world is also going to be better than the terran...
