I bought the first Sins, but never really played it. At the time there were too many other games holding my attention.
Total Annihilation/Supcom has always been my true RTS love, but we all know what happened with Supcom2. With that in mind, I recall a friend referring to Sins as Supcom in space. (which is actually what prompted me to buy the first Sins)
Anywho, long story short - There's been somewhat of an RTS drought lately.... and I'm STARVING for some RTS action... So I picked up Rebellion and must say that I am having some fun.
Let me preface this with: I KNOW THIS IS BETA. I know not all assets are included. Below is my initial impressions.
Graphics
Not too shabby. I would like to see much more lighting effects though, especially on the lasers, vapor trails, explosions, etc. At times the visuals appear very bland, but hey, we're in "space". It's dark... mostly. I don't know how one would go about improving upon this.
Audio
Overall this is the weakest part of the game to me, and really needs improvement for launch. The lasers don't sound very "lasery". The cannons don't have any punch to them. In a game where a lot of time is spent listening to munitions fire, lasers, and explosions, this is where you really need to shine, and there needs to be lots of variation.
I would also like the ability to use custom dynamic music, like in Total Annihilation. You had the ability specify music to play when building/exploring and music to play during battles.
Gameplay
So far I'm liking the gameplay. The tutorials are MUCH appreciated being a new player. I'm still learning so much as I play so hopefully I can offer better feedback on this part once I become more familiar with the mechanics.
Other
I really like all of the customization options for the interface and what not. Thank goodness there was an option to flip the horizontal camera movement, the default was driving me nuts.
