Win7 64-bit lets FE use 4GB of memory. On XP it's only 2GB.
Hmm... I'm on win7 x64, and I have 8gb of memory, but last night when I was playing I was getting a lot of slowdown on Next Turn. Medium map, 3 rival factions remaining. What was happening at the time to cause the slowdown was... I pretty much had the game wrapped up, and I decided I wanted to go for the spell of making victory. I didn't really need to worry about any of the other factions, one was amassing multiple armies on my border, but I had one army there that could take them all out. So while I was researching, building the towers, and casting the spell, I was just clicking next turn over and over again. I never gave the chance for the background AI threads to catch up.
However, the reason I brought this up, was during the slowdown, I switched over to check task manager, and I noticed it was only using just over 1GB. I thought that was conservative, considering I had so much available (even to a 32 bit app), and it seemed to be chugging away so hard.
Edit.. sorry, I linked to this topic, and didn't realize i was resurrecting.
