$39.99?

I've been away for quite a while; Sins always seemed like a slower paced game.  I am very interested in Rebellion however, and I've been checking in every once in a while.

But the other expansions were all $10.  Why's this one four times the cost?  Unless I'm reading the wrong threads, it seems like it offers just about as much game-play expansion as Entrenchment did.

It is a new stand alone game. People new to the Sins franchise will not have to buy Org Sins and expansions (Trinity), just Rebellion and your good to go.

I think it will be worth it

Still, it doesn't exactly seem fair to the loyal fans who've been in Sins since the beginning and have bought the original game and the expansions. We aren't getting all that much new content, although the upgrades and improvements which are said to be in Rebellion will certainly be appreciated.

$40 for a new player buying a brand new Sins game sounds all right. $40 for someone who already has Trinity and who's getting some moderate improvements and a few new features doesn't sound quite right.

Yes, there was a slight discount some time ago, but it's over.

I would usually agree but Sins is not like any other game. This is a classic I am happy to support and not a $60, one weekend game.

Sins is a game that gives hours and unending hours of play.  So few games can you say that with.

 

I have payed more in the electricity running my computer above idle while playing sins, than I payed for the game itself.

 

seriously the enjoymenthours/cost metric for sins is oh so very very low.

Yeah, right now its hard to say if how much content it will really have. I mean if they really do an excellent job on each of its components it could have over 4 times as much content as Entrenchment, but for now we just have to wait and see. Also FYI it probably won't be out in time for Christmas, but there is a chance the beta might.

So, I pre-ordered the game before the end of October, to get the $10 discount. The price then was $39.99

... It's now mid-November, and the game is still $39.99. So, I'm wondering, what is the "true" baseline price of the game? Is it $49.99, and the $10 discount is still being applied? Or is it $39.99 and I didn't get a discount?

The discount expired at the end of september. So if you preordered in october you did not get any discount. So that's why you paid the full price, which is $40.

Ah  That'll teach me to read the post-date for the article on the main page!  Since it was the top new item and still said "ends this month" I just assumed it was October. Of course if I'd actually checked the date...

Anyway, I've had many hundreds of hours out of Sins, and I'm sure I'll get hundreds more from Rebellion. So An extra $10 is not too big of a deal.

yeah i see that its somewhat worth it to new people, but what about the people like me who bought the trinity pack for 40 bucks? now i have to buy a stand alone which is only giving a few things. lets be honest, a few new ships. its not a massive rework, its just a small expansion pack. i really don't get it.

So money wise it's about the same in fact you probably saved yourself $ 10 bucks from my example. But this pricing example of mine would have cleared up any confusion. Sins should be sold as Sins and the added content would have just been in that title.

I think it's also important to factor in price at time of release versus price years later. The available Sins games are much cheaper now than they were before.

That said..

The price of gaming..... hours spent playing vs cost, is miniscule compared to every other form of entertainment I can think of.

I agree with you on this point.  I think for the amount of new DLC in rebellion announced so far, it sounds more like another micro expansion and not a full expansion to sins trinity players.  It should be priced as an add on DLC for those who have bought every other game in the series.

i mean, that so crazy. just because its a preorder i cant pay it with paypal?!!?!? where is the point?

i preordered assassins creed revelations in steam with paypal. Why i cant pay here? can anyone tell me the point of this?

As has been explained probably a hundred times by now in various threads, Paypal can't be used to preorder because Paypal needs to charge immediately, but SD does not charge until they have something to give you. That's why Paypal can't be used until they actually start charging pre-orders - this will be when the beta goes live.
