is it racist to be racist against a group of people who are themselves racist.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, this can be generalized to mean that all rappers are racist. Which is ignorant, but not exactly racist. If you can't tolerate a culture different than your own, then you are a racist. If that culture is racist too, that has no bearing on you. You're still a racist. You and them are just both racists.
Also, the use of the word nigger, and the variations of that word, are more about ownership of the word by the people that it was used against. It isn't racist if used in the right context at all, and in the mainstream rap you don't like, it is used in a non-racist context 90% of the time. A black man using the word "nigga" is not condescending, because they have taken a derogatory word used against them, possessed it, and now use it amongst their culture as a sign of respect. I'm not going to explain the psychology behind it, but it's simple 101 reading if you're new to the idea, if you're not, go reread it.

if i think Kanye West is a true dickhead for what he's done to Taylor Swift, or what he's done previously, im called a racist straight offf the bat, just because he happens to be black
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kanye is a jackass. This isn't the first idiotic thing he's done, and won't be the last. He's just as bad as the other celebrities who try to influence politcs. They need to stick at what they're good at, and not crown themselves king of all opinions. The people that would call you a racist for saying this sound just as ignorant to you, as you do to us by saying that all rap is terrible and racist. You, and they, are lacking a critical viewpoint for understanding.
You're confusing cultural movements with rap. Rap is influenced by the culture that supports it. Life isn't imitating rap. There are always "posers" and "wanna-be's." That has nothing to do with Rap, other than your dislike and lack of understanding of the culture that spawned it.

Rock sucks major cock.
If you want people to respect your musical tastes, start by respecting theirs.

Devil's Advocate: People started insulting rap first. Rock wouldn't have come into the thread had it not been for them.

why do people insist on generalising music to just Rap and Rock.... there are hundreds of other genres...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone here missed the point by seven miles. A LOT of Rock sucks, but there is some wonderful music in there, just like A LOT of Rap sucks, but there is some wonderful music in there. I didn't mention other musical genres because it's just redundant, but for those who have asspains about it. A LOT of Jazz sucks. A LOT of of Tejano sucks. A LOT of Classical sucks. A LOT of of Celtic sucks. etc, you get the point. Cherry picking a few songs with a limited sampling and you won't have a problem hating it. Actually taking the time to enjoy something different than your current tastes take a bit more than many are willing to give.
Rock is just another large, easily comparable genre. You can make the exact same arguement with -insert your favorite genre here-, I just chose rock as it's statistically the most popular in America.

Personally I think everyone is latently racist to some extent, it's an animal instinct.
wow, you really are ignorant
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually, fear of something different than you, especially things that you haven't had much contact in (in comparison) is built right into your core. Overcoming that ignorance is part of being intelligent.

so the statement is false because it is based on false pretenses
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just like your arguement that Rap is all racist, about money, hoes, drugs, etc. This attitude seems to forget the entire mantra of "Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll." Applying any stereotype to reality lets one easily detect the idiots from the intelligent. If you came in this thread and said, "I hate main-stream rap, but that's my only experience with it", everyone who truly likes rap will agree with you, with minor exceptions. Most of it sucks.
Just because there are idiots who support Rap like you oppose it, doesn't make either of you right. It just makes the world worse.
I tend to enjoy soul-full hip hop about hope, love, and aspiring to get out of poverty. It's funny, the song I'm listening to now is about a man who's friends daughter was killed, and how the poverty beget poverty and traps people there, teaches them to hate, thus perpetuating the pain. It hasn't mentioned any of the things you said you hated about rap, except for mentioning them as being the problems with the world. It's also not something you'll hear on the corporate radio.

my post editing is all messed up, sorry, I can't be bothered to try to fix it anymore if this last edit doesn't work. I'm too tired, but I put "-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------" around all my text for slightly easier reading.
