Yeah just tried a random build based on snipe and did much better, 6 kills and 3 deaths... skipped AF entirely and didn't notice it was gone.  I think the build I found on the wiki would only work on a large map where the other side lets me outlevel them on creeps uncontested.

I do two different reg build, and one of em doent use snipe.

I get mines first, then range, then stats or main.  I focus on mines, maim, and stats till i get plenor and the 1750 helm.  That takes care of manna problems.  The I max Angelic furry to increase dps, and it gives you AOE in addition to mines to handle creeps. 

For favor its usually poison dagger.  This build focuses on Regs AOE damage and slows.  It also focused on high auto attack dmg, and a fast attack rate.  That combined with the gloves that give you a chance to crit, and you should be ok.

To be honest its actually more a support build.  I find it nice becasue it slows the heck out of your enemy and makes you obnovious and hard to get.  It also make it good late game to hold off mass creeps, and has decent burst damage potental. 

And lasly it works well to control minion builds due to its aoe.

I have had success with a snipeless regulus build, goes something like this.

I get blade of the serpant/poison dagger as my favor item. Angelic, mines, maim, range, mines etc.... It focus's on slow with maim, shrapnel mines, and wyrmskin gloves, poison dagger and does extra damage with angelic. Anyway try it out you might like it.

in a 3v3, especially on cataract where 1v1 dominance can be important, AF dps is a decent build imo.  at the start i get mard's hammer + gauntlets of brutality + lvl 1 AF for +90 damage.  u can dominate those flags early where not alot of ppl buy the armor item.  i lvl scope so that ppl feel the pain well before i get in their range and they might not even engage cause you hit too hard.  also, u can kite them to the point where they cant engage anymore.  the AF is pretty good on taking out nearby priest also.  mana regen isnt too bad as long as ur not constantly shooting, for example, turn it off if ur picking off a tower and cant sustain the mana cost.  mana pots go a long way also.

however, on larger maps where u are further away from the security of a tower and have to cover lots of distance without putting urself in danger, dont go dps if u dont have good exit strats.  Also, with 4v4, u usually fight more than 1 and u are their primary target.  so while ur running away from their range, ur not attacking, therefore not contributing the damage ur team needs to even the fight.

the reason u usually dont get snipe when u have a dps build is cause of the mana cost.

I think just one level is always worth it, if just for the added assists/kill steals.  Running back to the flag or to shop, it never hurts to drop a snipe down when you will see the mana crystal in a few seconds anyways, and that 500 health you took off was essentially free - and most games you'll get at least one or two added assists added to the team, at the minimum - and that one time it gets a runner, it's worth it.  And it's worth it, if nothing else, because just the fact that you have it makes everyone on the other team have to disengage 500 HP earlier then they would otherwise, giving your team a much needed boost.  (Much needed, of course, because the rest of them have to carry the reg  )

That being said, SocialistRyan is the only reg I've ever played with that I've felt was carrying his weight, and he rarely uses snipe.

i usually go mine based reg build because at max level, it does bigger numbers than snipe, and you can bait people into them, and they are effective for tower killing. often in beginning i get mine lvl 1 to farm the little guys, then get range, then snipe, then mines, ect, always maxing mines as soon as i can. often il let my health get a little on the low side(dangerous i know), then let them chase me through a mine field, use a combat health, and chase em down or snipe em dead. or just toss them on top of people. whatever floats your boat

There's a pretty big stigma growing that noobs play regulus, and I think it is because of skills like snipe.  Noobish reg players tend to follow the same pattern, or have a lot in common.  Choose from:

Swift Anklet

+damage Gear

Snipe, maxed

Snipe against people in same lane, just for DPS

No Mines

No Mark

Angelic Fury

Most of the time thinking that if they can just get a bit more gold and items, they'll become this incredible assassin... except they don't get much gold from kills like they did vs the computer, because human players are not going to let you just shoot the crap out of them.  Further more, their lack of HP means they die very quickly, especially to beast or Erebus.

for items, get scaled helm, banded, or 400 glove

and unbreakable boots, battlecrown, 1750 helm like mana heavy items

ok at no piont can your character ever 1v1 anyone. meaning that your useless after cata. or at least that shit build isn't doing much help for anyone snipe doesn't help after about lvl 7 and mines dont help (unless your creep farming) after lvl 10. and why on earth you'd get stats with a reg without angel is beyond me. so what you can do 6+ extra dmg per? just throw all those wasted points into angel for more dmg. even so with that build you'll have no follow up to mines and your gonna need to throw some heavy gold into mana items at the late game meaning yoru speed or your health will suffer and reg is not a fast character to start with. the only thing you can do if you see another demigod is run, meaning that your constantly going to be needing someone else to come help you and porting into anotehr demigods fight you can only help with mark. long story short. any other character is better (rook, qot and tb excluded). and you'll have a ok at best early game.

So your great response is a personal attack and then anecdotes?  *applauds*  I love seeing good dialog taken to entirely new levels.  What's next, a godwins law?  

Reg can't 1v1 a Sedna, Erebus, or UB that knows what they are doing.  Anyone who is actually decent at this game knows that.  Perhaps it might, over time, be able to kite one down if they are drunk, but they'll never be able to hold a flag or a portal, which is what late game will often come down to.

I have a very hard time against these three, especially Erebus (who ignores towers) and UB (who can spit almost as far as I can shoot and does 1.5x as much damage in melee, at least).  Anyone have pointers vs. these DGs as Regulus?  I'm most interested in how to make a go of it 1v1 for instance if I get cornered and don't have tp scrolls.  All I can really do vs UB is soak the spit, drink a potion, then kite him around until he gets bored and runs away.

I don't really have a problem against Sedna because if she gets overextended she doesn't have the speed to get away from me and can't keep herself alive forever without help.

I'm starting to agree that Regulus is really for DPS and anti-creep support as he lacks the hp and, at low levels, DPS to really take on most DGs.  I do pretty well vs. slower DGs like The Rook and Oak, however.
