Charles, please explain why exactly Zelaya's actions make him a tyrant.

What happened is that he was going to hold a nation-wide referendum in which everyone would get to VOTE on whether or not a person could run for re-election after serving one whole term.

Even the mighty United States allows a president to run for re-election after serving one term.

Zelaya is the democratically elected president in what ALL observers stated was a free and fair election. The national congress and military had no grounds whatsoever for staging a coup to oust him.

Simple, his attempt to change something that can not ligally be changed is signs of a person who is looking to contol his country by illegal means. The fact that Chavez is one of his allies makes this even worse. Tyrant may be an exageration but it's this kind of behaviou that leads to tyranny. But that doesnt matter because people never believe these things till it's too late.

What happened was he broke the law as follows:

"One of several clauses that cannot be legally altered in the Honduran constitution limits presidents to a single, 4-year term. Congress claims Zelaya, whose term ends in January, modified the ballot question at the last minute to help him eventually try to seek re-election."

"The Supreme Court, Congress and the military all deemed his planned ballot illegal."

But I guess he did no wrong, right? That's OK, we should continue to support people who do things wrong. But then why did we not support Bush when he passed the Patriot Act or when he did the phone tapping issue or when waterboarding was used. Funny how one person can do things within the laws and be consider a criminal and should be impeached but when someone truly commits a crime, we should back him. Now that is comedy right there.

Yea because our Constitution allows it and it allows it to be changed if necessary. Remember once upon a time there was no such thing as terms.

I agree, he shouldn't be soft with them. I want to see him be firm, but willing to work with them - if they'll work with us. I just don't buy the Cuban embargo anymore; Ahmadinejad, sure, I get the deal with him; Chavez? He's a friggin kook and not a threat in my opinion. Honestly, if I was president, I would work with them in effort for them to work with us.

They insult us?   The great and mighty United States of the World?! (M'uh bad, America.) Good gracious, what a tragedy, it isn't like we've earned some of it. Nor is it like we can't shrug it off. When someone insults you, do you always walk up and knock him out? No, not always. We need to get over our arrogance when it comes to the US being insulted.

Yet we elect these people in? Oh look, another democrat....oh look...another republican. Yes, both parties will continue to do the same shit over, and over, and over, and over and...did i mention over? Republicans will bitch about democrats running up the bill, then the republicans will offer an "alternative," which really isn't an alternative. Guess what, no one is doing anything about it. Including, perhaps, you. Yes, it's BS; Yes, I would like to see it changed. Yes I agree that Obama is doing things that are crap, but to approach it with a chicken little mindset is ludicrous.

Do I see it? Yes, but I never voted for Obama, so it's sort of a mute ponit. Also, I'm not saying don't criticize him. I'm not saying he is infalliable. I'm saying...not everything is his fault. Congress with the republicans, and democrats; congress with it's "unbiased" judges, and all others...are also equal to it. Whether or not they did it, they're also guilty by complicity.

P.S. You know, and this is going to sound seditious...but I honestly think we need a revolution. I just don't see this bullshit cycle changing any time soon, yet people complain about it...

Americans=paranoid by nature.. just reading your comments is almost like conducting a sociological/cultural research on the behaviour of the common politicus americanus, which is basically accusing the relative other political ideology of trying to destroy every american value there is and destroy and rob you of your freedom and using ridicule and cheap humour to achieve it. I take it ya'll like listenign to talk radio shows of your chosing as well - I tried listening once, forgot which one, was a conservative one though, and it was totally shallow, without any real political analysis at all, basically in the same style as the first comments on this thread were like - using emotions like fear and sarcasm and trying to pass it off as something that should be taken as a serious opinion but without offering a real alternative. Meh. I was an exchange student in Iowa for a year and I was DESPERATE for real news during that time, leveld, neutral and objective or at least trying to be as much as possible.  Iowa was maybe the wrong place to be for that lol

Another thing I find extremely amusing is what you consider socialism, as if the USA would ever turn into a  socialist dictatorship with an one monolithic party, planned economy and expropriationg of every private business, a secret police like the cheka that has to fulfill killquotas or be killed etc. if the government asserts more control in certain areas (that need to be controlled). You realize that the word society has the same linguistic origin? Not evey political term that has social* in it is automatically a bad thing, don't react to it as if it were a red cloth and you a bull trying to kill it.

Btw, I love football to death, and yes I mean actual "european" football; I played it for a number of years and I'm a hardline Manchester U fan due to my heritage and all. (I also have a soft spot for the English, Irish, and Scottish national teams) If I'm ever in Ireland, or wherever you're from, we might have to get together for a few rounds.
