Who or what is Tir-Quan?

Impossible.  Chuck Norris would eat any clones made of him.

It's one of the must have bonus buildings in the game if you like to conquer planets. The truth is, Chuck Norris founded the school... It was only when confronted by twin JeanClaude 'Van-Damns' he had to resort to cloning himself... Later, he recounted the story to George Lucas, who used it as the basis for the clone wars part of his Star Wars saga.

Which is why Tir-Quan training actually produces a wide variety of "end products".  Your soldiers can be like Gandalf the Grey, Gandalf the White, Monty Python and the Holy Grail's Black Knight, Benito Mussolini, the Blue Meanie, Cowboy Curtis, Jambi the Genie, Robocop, the Terminator, Captain Kirk, Darth Vader, Lo Pan, Superman, any single Power Ranger, Bill S. Preston, Theodore Logan, Spock, The Rock, Doc Ock, or Hulk Hogan.  They pop out of their transports lightning fast, and they'll kick that planet of Chuck Noris clones in their cowboy asses

Actually the Tir-Quan are just an off-shoot of the Ur-Quan from Star Control.

I downloaded Starcontrol 2 and am playing it right now.  A real blast from the past!  You need a program called DOSBox to run it, but it works great.  Back when I first played it 15 years ago, it was a large game, but it's about 15 MEGs and took just a few seconds to download.

Heh, you don't even need to do that much to get a good fix of SC2.  Just look up "The Ur-Quan Masters".  It's a remake of SC2 by some of the same people who made it originally, and it has a whole host of technical updates to allow it to run just fine (or better!) under Windows.  It also has a lot of optional extras, such as the ability to pick and choose from the various media used among the different versions (PC, 3DO, and updated).

...And recently-added netplay Melee combat.  Holy smokes, I might be putting GCII on hold for a bit.

Looking at reply #5 it seems that its not related to Star Control. I only ever played the Genesis verions of the game.

Why is that?  To get MoO 1 installed and played, all I do in Windows XP is to make a shortcut to the install file, make that shortcut run in compatability mode for Windows 95 and then also set the old memories that are required.

DosBox takes care of the music, resolution and other stuff.  You can basically just run it on default settings and your dos program will work fine.

As has been said, that is unnecessary, because a Windows compatible version with full voice acting (which the PC version never had) is available for free under the name The Ur-Quan Masters.

Yeah, if the improvement made a ton of Chuck Norris clones, it would have to give ya like a +300% soldiering bonus.
