One more political thought...

Sheesh, as I look up at the little calendar on JU and notice that the last time I wrote something was about 3 weeks ago, and here I am about to write a third little article all in a short period of time, I'm reminded why I haven't had much to say, at least not in the political arena for a while.

First, once the wannabe queen of the United States was defeated in the primary season.  Once Hillary Rodham Clinton was defeated (which, uh, most of the world could see long before she actually finally decided to GET OUT!!!) my interest in who the candidate was on that side of the aisle would be waned quickly.  If she who would be queen had become the nominee you could pretty much bet that I'd be pushing hard writing a ton of articles on exactly why she didn't deserve to be a dog catcher, much less a Senator (but hey, if the loons in New York state want her, they can have her.  At least in the Senate she's just one of one hundred, so the damage she can do is somewhat minimized), and even much less a candidate for President of the United States.  Not to worry though as she lost in the primary season so no need to write anything about her any more (at least not for a good while).

Second, well, I've written it before but I'll say it again -- the choice of candidates that we do have sucks.  Yes Obama is better, at least for my tastes, than Hillary Clinton would have been, but better is very relative in that area.  Unfortunately McCain isn't much, if any, better in my opinion so I'm left with a choice between, well, one stinker and another stinker.  I wish I could vote NONE OF THE ABOVE and if enough people voted that way both parties would have to find a new candidate and try again.

With a week to go until we know who wins the big prize I still don't like either choice.  I respect John McCain as a former war hero, but his politics are not that much in line with mine.  He is perhaps, for me, a slightly better choice over Obama, but that choice is clearly a lesser of the evils choice.  I'm almost tempted enough to vote for someone -- anyone -- else for the office that as I read the news in the Washington (Communistic) Post about Cynthia McKinney's run for the office as the Green Party candidate (can I pause for a second and ask just what the frack the Green party is thinking?!?!) I actually considered wasting my vote on her on November 4, 2008.

Anyway, not much longer until it's all over.  Come November 4, 2008 I'll vote for someone.  Who knows, maybe Nader can pull off the mega-upset.  After election day hopefully there will be something else that inspires some writing on different topics and in different categories.

(One more reason why I haven't written much lately, I still don't seem to be able to get the embedded videos working, though I haven't tried since the last article on that topic.  I would like to know that is fixed as being able to embed videos and write some comments about them is one thing I actually do enjoy doing...)

I have been slipping more and more until right now, I am about 98% that I will vote for Bob Barr.  NOt a great candidate, but a lot more to my liking (most of the same goals).  With all the 3rd party candidates, I dont see a reason for a NOTA for pres.  As a vote for a 3rd party is basically the same in effect.

I agree almost totally with you on the whole article.  I just cant mention it in Polite Virginia Society that I am in league with a Terrapin.

If you're a fan of the NOTA option on a ballot might I suggest voting for Nader as he is a proponent of that stance.  I, like Dr. Guy, would much rather vote for Bob Barr this year unfortunately he wasn't able to get enough signatures to make it onto the WV ballot so I am left with McCain (no thanks), Obama (no thanks), crazy ass Cynthia McKinney (no thanks) or Ralph Nader (palatable candidate, I did vote for him in 2000).

And as I always say if you can't find any other candidate to vote for there is always the write in candidate.  For any office where I can't find someone to vote for I will be writing in Donald Duck as a protest pseudo-NOTA vote.

First off, I’m happy to have found you again. I must say, however, I'm shocked at the lack of political insights from my former Bldg 28 coworker.   I wracked my brain to remember your moniker “Terpfan1980.”  And when I located your blog I expected to spend a good amount of time reading your take on the political landscape as we approach the apparent coronation of our savior.  I understand McCain is not the flashiest candidate (conservatively speaking), but what I’ve been witnessing with the MSM’s love affair with “The Messiah”  is nothing short of incredulous.  I’m SCARED of the prospects of this guy taking over our country with Pelosi and Reid as his sidekicks.  If the Republicans had control of the house or senate then I wouldn’t care but I really see the possibility of our country taking an irreversible turn towards a quasi socialist government (some would argue we’re already there).   The Dems have been beating the mantra that McCain didn’t vet Palin enough before choosing her as his running mate.  Good lord!  Obama’s been running for 2 years now and there hasn’t been one sincere effort to vet this guy.  There is just too many questionable aspects about his past and very little of it has been looked into by the MSM. This cartoon says it all.

I don’t know Terpfan, I think we are in for some dark days ahead.  What do you think is worse?  A Clinton who’s only aspiration is Power (which means pandering to the center) or a socialist ideologue who believes that tax cuts for the rich is actually taking money from the people (I know, Clinton believes that too, but she’s not an ideologue).

Heh, welcome in Burnt Orange.  Nice to see some content from you as well.

I really wish I had more to write about this political season, and perhaps after the election (or will be a selection/coronation as the media seems to expect?) I may have more to write as Congress starts making many more wrong moves.  Maybe.  Or, I hate to say it, it could wind up being a case of not much to say about what they are up to as there just won't be a choice.

On the plus side, at least for me, I'll be comforted with the thought that I haven't voted for many of these politicians, if any, that will be running things.  My votes will be towards something different pretty much up and down the line.  I wish someone would take out a broom and sweep the place clean of all the vermin that fill the place

Ah, 

You raised my biggest issue with the current state of politics.  It's funny how Congress has a 10% or so approval rating and everybody wants new blood in there.  But when it comes down to it, the vast majority of these clowns aren't even in jeopordy of loosing their seat.  We can only vote for who our reps are going to be.  And for some crazy reason, when given the chance, people vote right back in the same guy that's been representing them.  We have no control over other reps yet when given the chance we do nothing to change our own.  My district is a rare exception to that.  Wayne Gilchrest, whose been here since the 90's lost in the primaries.  But now my district is in danger of voting in a Dem.  If that happens Maryland will have 7 Dems and 1 Republican representing them in Congress.  The real issue here is how our districts have been maligned as if they are cancer eating throughout Maryland.  Did you know that the county of Anne Arundel has 4 different US representatives.  That is lunacy!

Did you know that the county of Anne Arundel has 4 different US representatives. That is lunacy!

Sounds like the snake district here, where part of it runs down the center line of an interstate.
