Politics in Northern Virginia bring a quirky smile to my face...
In many TV commercials by what seems to be 2 Democrat/liberal candidates there is a common theme about candidate Gerry Connolly saying that Connolly is 'Too corrupt, even for Congress' -- just what the heck does that say about the people running against Connolly? Or, hmmm, about the people already serving in Congress? Are they corrupt and it's ok because they aren't 'Too corrupt... for Congress'?
I don't have any horse in the race there, but really, if you are a candidate running against Connolly do you really want to use that tag line?! Not that the tag-line isn't effective. Certainly I'm hearing it and it seems to be memorable enough for me to think to write a quick article about it, so it's probably having the effect that the candidates using it desire, but then again I also know I've seen commercials by Connolly saying that he has been endorsed by the Washington (Communistic) Post whose headlines are actually featured in the 'Too corrupt, even for Congress' ads against him with further notes claiming he was cleared of corruption charges, etc.
Which side has the more effective ads? Probably the 'Too corrupt' side, but again what does that say about all candidates? (Probably just sez the truth about all of 'em <evil political grin>)
