Okay boys and girls, before this goes too far without a bit of eye witness reporting. I've been to Iraq as a soldier and many US servicemen think that we should cut and run. Those are the guys and girls that came over after the beginning of the war. I was there right after the beginning, for thirteen and a half months, and I had the honor to be there when our bulldozers dug up the mass graves. I got to see the skeletons of men, women, and children (even babies people) come rolling out of the sand by the hundreds and in some cases by the thousands. All you people out there who think that the US shouldn't have gone into that country are the kind of people that let Hitler stay in power, even after it was known that he had death camps. Who cares if Iraq couldn't take on the world like German could, their leader was still killing people on a huge scale using gas, biological weapons, and the good old fashion bullet. But that's okay right, he wasn't killing your people was he? It doesn't matter if he isn't killing your people, as long as it's no one you know, all you cowards would rather stick your head in the sand and pray that it doesn't happen to you.
No, we aren't the best people over in the US; I personnally think our present leader is kind of a turd but that's the great thing about this country, we are about to get a new one. Are the new ones any good, who knows, we'll find out, and if we don't like them, we can even have them removed legally (though the last time we started down that trail, it was for a leader that couldn't keep his wang in his pants). I would like to remind the world that the US is a damn young country and we have still bailed out most of the nations of the people on this board. You people in France, work on your German. England, well, knuff said there. Germany, you barely had a building standing after world war two yet now you guys have one hell of a good economy (most likely better then ours right now) even though you killed our people by the tens of thousands less then a quarter of our nations age ago. The older nations hold grudges for hundreds of years, long after the offended people are dead as well as their children and their children's children. We've still got people alive who fought in world war two and if a nation that was once our enemy less then two generations ago needs help, here comes the US with money, food, and whatever the hell else you need. Even with this, we give the bad people a good target to hate and plot against, so you can sleep well at night because once again, they aren't coming after you.
We've got our problems but until a single one of you can say you stood beside me when they dug up the mass graves in Iraq, or can tell me you were standing beside me when every Iraqi in sight was running up to shake our hands and praise Allah that we came to stop the tyrant. We don't fight Iraqis over there, they are dying along side us, strong, brave, devout men and woman who just want to be free of those that would warp Islam for their own ends. I cried for the Iraqi soldiers that died along side the US soldiers fighting against people who proudly admitted being from Iran with weapons the Iranian government bought them. Someday, Iraq will be a shining beacon of hope in the Middle East and not because they became like the US, but because they charted their own path. They'll probably end up hating us though, like all the other nations that we saved in our short time as a nation ourselves but we have thick skin here in the US (most of us at least) and we'll get by, secretly smiling to ourselves in the knowledge that our blood gave you the chance to hate us.
I know it's been a lot of years since WW2 but hey, our history isn't that old. Have a natural disaster happen and see who comes running to help. Lots of other countries have and even when they treated us like crap, we still found a way to help there people with food, without making them watch our TV or follow our government. Hell, we don't even watch our own TV these days and complaining about our government is a national passtime. I'm watching a Japanese TV show right now and thinking about ordering some Italian food (wait a minute, didn't we have a war against them????). And are we demanding all of the oil from Iraq now that we are in the country? Hell no, I'm, paying $4.10 a gallon for gas; most likely you may be using some Iraqi oil in your vehicle just like we are. We are paying billions a week to keep a bunch of people, who share nothing in common with us other then being human and wanting to be free, safe. Yeah, the US is a bully and a bastard, we must be the worst people on the Earth. We help our old enemies and would give up nearly everything to help out someone in need so if this is what makes a bad nation, I'm proud to live in, fight for, and wake up every morning in one.

On a side note, I thought this was a Sins of a Solar Empire board where we talk about games and the like. I didn't see an American complaining about another nation on here, it took someone else to take a board made to talk about a game and turn it into a good place to find hate. Good job people.

What i fear from Iran is that Sunburn missile. I think alot of ships are going to be lost because of those.

I have to post one more thing here, directly related to what IDMopman posted. I would guess you are from the UK, which is kind of funny because I spoke with a friend of mine in the UK on IM a bit ago to tell him about this thread and he was laughing because he said that in the UK, they have about as much ability to make policy such as to attack or not to attacking a country as we do in the US. Only difference is, their politicians tend to have much longer times in power then ours, even when in disfavor.

So what exactly did the U.S. do before Sept 11 to warrant those attacks ? It was a different administration in office when the WTC was bombed, and those responsible for that 1993 bombing were hoping for the Towers to collapse back then.
Oh, so the problem is U.S. foreign policy ? The rest of the worlds' foreign policy gave us the two worst killings of humans, WW1 and WW2, and foreign countries gave the world the 2 worst killers, Stalin and Hitler, plus a few others that may rival these two. The United States of America pales in comparision to the screw ups the rest of the world has committed.

1) Actually, go watch the news and you'll see less and less reporting on Iraq especially now. Why? US and Iraqi forces have substantially reduced violence and now control the last militia stronghold. Iraq has been getting things together for the past year, and now they're almost done. There's a reason why the news isn't reporting on every single death in Iraq daily anymore. Things were horrible over there, but now they've improved to be better than when the war began.

2) The USA does not give a damn about what the rest of the world thinks. We do not govern by popularity (although that Obama guy might). The vast majority of Americans, particularly those living outside of cities, would have no hesitation giving the EU the finger. The world should not be govern by consensus and popularity. Sometimes you have to do unpopular things in order to do the right thing.

Hey, the rest of the world doesn't have to sweat it... if we continue with the "right" in power, the final straw will be broken and the U.S. as we know it will follow the model of the Roman Empire into the history books as a "once powerful nation that overreached its capacity".

There's still time to get back on track and prove to the rest of the world, though, that not everyone in this nation is a warmongering xenophobe intent on forcing our beliefs on others' way of life or meddling in the affairs of other nations.

All I know is, we are definitively the "Divided States of America" as we currently proceed- and I don't see how the two sides will ever come to agreement- we see all aspects of how the world and life works in polar opposites. No amount of debate or discussion will alter how the two sides think.

I still have faith, though, that we can show the world one bad President does not dictate our overall competence, compassion and ability to participate in a proper manner with the world, as we did when we were respected and looked up to as a sound example. After all, most nations have had bad leaders at some point- we just haven't seen such a bad one in modern times, so it's new to everyone. Time will heal the wounds he caused.

2) Are they pursuing nuclear weapons? People keep accusing them of being a theocracy, which is true, but then, if they are a theocracy, and the theocrats who truly rule Iran (ie. not Ahmadinejad -- he has very little power, actually) have gone on record as being completely against having nuclear weapons, why do you think they would? I mean, they're saying that possessing such weapons goes against Islam. Think about that for a minute or two.

3) Has Iran actually invaded anyone? No, not in the modern era, despite what Danielost wants you to think (though I think he might have Iran and Iraq confused, judging by what he's written above... several times). Iran hasn't even threatened to invade or attack anyone, except as retaliation to an attack, which is well within their rights under the UN charter.

4) Has Iran been supplying Iraqi militias with weapons? There's no proof of this. A weapon being made in Iran does not necessarily imply that that weapon was given by the government. Think about all the American and Russian-made arms around the world that are still being used. Should we then invade or nuke Russia for this?

5) Does Iran have a right to develop nuclear power? Yes they do! It's their right under the NPT to develop nuclear power for peaceful purposes. Both the USA and Iran are signatories to the NPT. Strangely, Israel opted not to become a signatory -- and they have tonnes of nuclear weapons. And they're threatening and attacking their neighbours, so why is nobody on their case?

6) Is there proof that Iran has developed nuclear weapons? No! Even the CIA doesn't think they are pursuing them right now, nor does the IAEA. In fact, the head of the IAEA, El Baradei, just threatened to quit if Iran is attacked.

7) Does Iran have a legitimate reason for pursuing nuclear power? Yes! Even though they have a lot of oil, that won't last forever, and of course, oil isn't the best energy source for all needs. For those people who say that Iran has no legitimate reason because of their oil, I give you Canada, which also has a lot of oil, and also builds nuclear power plants (and exports them, too). You want to know another country that has just started pursuing nuclear power, with the blessings and assistance of the USA? Saudi Arabia. And believe me, they have oil.

8) Is Ahmadinejad a dictator? No. In fact, he was elected. A lot of Iranians can't stand the guy. And the prime minister before him, Khatami, was actually quite moderate and liberal, relatively speaking. Don't judge the entire country of Iran because their leader is a bit of an idiot.

9) Should Iran pay for the crimes that were committed back in the 70's? Do the youth of Iran deserve to die a fiery death for things that happened so far in the past? (Most of Iran is very young, by the way -- the average age is in the 20's, IIRC). The hostage incident happened a long time ago. Isn't it about time we moved on?

Really, people, just because we all spend time framing the Thalans, invading and slaughtering the Torians, and sporing the crap out of the Iconians, do we really need to do the same in real life? Stick to video games, where your violent urges won't actually get any innocent people killed, mmkay?
