It strikes me that if you want pretty ships, go advent; if you want mean looking ships, go vasari, and if you want rugged industrial ships, go TEC.
I think the TEC ships are excellent; functional, brutal, weighty - feels very battlestar galactica to me... solid gritty ships have their own aesthetic value.
