Wow amazing game

So I just picked this up today; came home after working a 8 hour shift and loaded the game up. Ran the tutorial, hated the game and went to bed. Woke up a few hours ago and ran the game again, did the tutorial ... hated it still; it was kind of annoying that there was no voice to give you instructions and you had to read the text. Loaded a single player game up after that; on one of the small maps. Its now 4 hours later; I kicked the computers ass (or actually the pirates did it for me) and I'm in LOVE with this game. Its 4 AM and I have a 9:30 AM lecture for quantum mechanics and I really don't care, I'm gonna load up another game and play again... this game is probably gonna destroy my social life and my marks.

This happen to anyone else? where they hated the tutorial but then suddenly realized how amazing this game was after diving into the skirmish maps? I really want to start a bigger game but I'm still not sure what the order should be for building your colonies...should I build a ton of colonizers and grab as many planets as possible? or should I stick to like 2-5 which are nearby and build tons of troops?

I viewed the tutorial as 101 boot camp...basically "how to survive an additional five minutes--you'll learn the real stuff in the field". That being said...honestly, it's not that frackin' hard to read some text. I read through the whole manual before even starting the game ^.^

I guess I was just used to other RTS games; I had just finished Age of Empires 3 right before Sins. I hated the tutorial voice from Homeworld 2; so annoying, oh and is there a way to activate a "mini map"? that shows my fleet and enemy fleets in my observable areas? I hate scrolling over a random planet to find my guys fighting against an invasion force that I didn't know as there till that very moment.

That's why our Lords Fraser, hallowed be their names, gave us the ability to zoom waaaaaaay out to see a more tactical display as well as the Empire Tree. When zoomed out to planet icon level, each planet will have three small bars; the one on the bottom displays the rough quantity of structures (mouse over tells you exactly which ones), the left bar shows any friendly ships in the area (mouse over again tells you exactly which ones), while the right bar shows enemy strength at that planet (guess what the mouse does again?!)...very simple and easy to use.

I got over my minimap fetish in about 3-4 hours of solid, non-intro gameplay (basically after my first 2 hour game...so call it 6 hours and I was completely comfortable with this UI, with some exceptions).

oh ok; I haven't been using the waaay zoomed out view...I just use it to quickly travel from point to point ... love the ''zoom to mouse'' feature as opposed to zoom to center of screen.
