Yay, Big Brother is back and EVIL

Big Brother five has started here in the UK. Ooooh how exciting. I'd like to say I was beyond this reality tv malarky. I'd like to say I see it for what it is, cheap, tacky tv, playing on our natural need to be nosey, and watch people just live. What is it that gets us so intrigued? For many of the Big Brothers we spent the majority of the time watching people lie in the sun, and generally being lazy, but still we sat and watched. Well I did anyway, maybe the rest of the nation had more sense. The first series was good, it was something new, it had that novelty value and a nice mix of people, that provided us with all elements of human nature. By the third series it was more fun watching my fish swim around their tank! Still I watched, in the hope that something exciting would happen!

There are all different kinds of people that go in for this kind of thing. I can't say it's my idea of fun, being watched 24/7, staying in a confined space with smelly strangers, getting told what to do every second of the day. The variety this year is the most diverse so far, we have gay, straight, bi-sexual, and a sex change dude, that no one's realised that this lovely lady was once a man, that should be fun to watch when that comes out. We have the insane, the smart, the stupid, the boring, we have it all! This year the slogan goes along the lines of 'big brother-gets evil'. The powers that be have realised Big Bro was getting boring, they realised they needed to spice things up. So they've got people with big personalities, opinionated people. They usually have a mixture, quiet people, vocal people, easy going people, to compliment each other. This year in hope of fireworks they've gone loud and proud. They've made the house smaller. So more people living in a smaller space, only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose.

What drives people to want to take part in such a thing? The need for fame? The need to be recognised? The need for acception? It's amazing the lengths people go to, to win and i don't think it's purely about the money. It helps I'm sure, but knowing they are popular is a bigger part of it. There's this one guy, Victor, who is acting lovely to everyones faces and then goes in the diary room and slags them all off. Arrogant sausage. he tells big bro and the audience at home how he's going to manipulate the other housemates into thinking he's a nice guy, who isn't a threat and then when they least expect it he'll, in his words, 'alpha male his way to victory'. What the dumb numb nut doesn't realise is, the people at home he is sharing his clever plan with are the ones who get the final say on who wins. Why do so many people miss the big picture? He might get to the final three, and recieve his 15mins of fame if he's lucky, but that will be it, is it really worth it?

I've noticed how we vote, we get rid of the interesting ones first. If they make uncomfortable viewing and don't fit in with our general prudish nature, we get rid. Exercise our power over them and then complain weeks later when we're left with all the boring ones, who think not wiping their arse after going to the toilet is controversal.

So a summary? A mixture of people, from all walks of life, with all kinds of hidden agendas are thrown together and are expected to get along or kill each other, all very different, but with one similar goal. Remind you of anything? Hehe, I'll no doubt keep you updated! Sorry Kermit

Big Brother is no more than a bunch of peasants bitching about each other, why would anyone with any self respect want to watch it?

I'm right there with you. I got dragged into Big Brother when I lived in the UK--your version is so much better than the US one. It was the year with Brian, Helen, and...oh what was the name of the guy who was so cute but soo dull? (how sad that I still remember the other names?)--but it's addictive...like a drug...

A mixture of people, from all walks of life, with all kinds of hidden agendas are thrown together and are expected to get along or kill each other, all very different, but with one similar goal

Paul? Him and Helen got together and are still a couple now, awww how cute! How sad that I know all that! Brian ruled though, without a doubt, he was a giggle a minute! It is so addictive, I always say I won't watch it, but I do, I'm my own worse enemy! I never saw the US one, though I heard it was very different to ours, I guess everyone does these things differently!

Hehe *acts innocent* not referring to anything.......

Petey...I've missed your comments...I guess I'm guilty of having that self respect, i am ashamed though!

I'm not watching BB4 in Aus - but the latest ads are saying that "there are only 11 people in Australia who don't know Miriam's secret"
Miriam is going into the big brother house as an intruder.

Oooooh, Trina why did you tell me that! I'm now going to have to go and find the website look it up and become addicted to Aussie big bro to, grrrr! As if the english version wasn't enough! I think an intruder is the best idea, gives big bro the element of control, but provides trouble to, hehe!

The first US Big Brother was a snooze. Everybody was so nice and Brittany was into cuddling. And of course, George the Chicken Man who went nuts on national tv and Jamie who wanted to become an actress. US BB2 was the best season, though. Nicole's footjob, snobby Shannon, smarmy Will... US BB3 couldn't top it, though.
