Rep. Murtha, apparently wanting to seal the deal on getting himself appointed king of the losers, is championing the position that the war in Iraq cannot be won military and that we must leave, uh, yesterday if not sooner. Apparently Murtha believes that he and his friends on the left will be able to paint this problem as being entirely the fault of President Bush. But... on the other hand, as the Democrats in Congress play politics with the money for funding the war, the President and the Department of Defense are playing the game pretty well too. They will shift funding around within the Department of Defense and eventually wind up pulling funding from civilian jobs at local military bases. Military bases that are likely going to be in selected areas. Areas selected for the best impact, and hardest hits on local economies so that the voters in those areas can get all riled up about how the idiots on the Democrat side -- never the friend of the military except when it comes to the thought of losing jobs back home -- have just cost those voters or someone they know jobs and income.
If this resolves like most of these issues do, the government is just going to waste a bunch of tax money sending people home from their jobs on temporary furloughs that eventually become fully paid vacations. Paid for by the taxpayers as the Democrats will yet again try to buy back those votes, or at least to minimize the damage, by claiming that it was all Bush's fault (hmmm, where I have heard that too many times before?!? Must be that he's just a mouthpiece for those twit's on the left, but I digress...) and they never intended for Bush to move funds around to address the pressing needs of the troops that are in harm's way.
The Democrats, especially with Murtha wagging the dog, are trying their level best to get a date certain for troop withdrawal in the books. McConnell and company, over in the Senate, are doing their level best to prevent such things from happening. I hate to imagine the mess these idiots would be creating for foreign policy if given the chance and left unchecked, but thankfully, for now, there's not a filibuster proof majority in control in the Senate and lord knows I hope that doesn't change in the future.
Murtha could do me a huge favor and go choke on a bone somewhere, but I doubt that will happen. I wish I could say that he'd be retiring soon, but I don't think that will be the case. The best I can really hope for is that the damage in the House and Senate races isn't enough to turn complete control of the congress over to the Democrats in the next election. God forbid they get a veto proof or even a filibuster proof majority in Senate. If they do, the damage could be incalculable.
