For anyone thinking of ordering Heroes: Season 1 on HD-DVD from Amazon.com you can save 5% off the already discounted price (heavily discounted off of Best Buy's advertised $99 price of same { though BestBuy.com shows a more reasonable lower price if you order online, not as good as Amazon.com's but not bad }) if you enter promotional code: tvguide5 in the box that is shown when you go to check out.
You'll see a discount of 5% off the already discounted price, knocking the total to approx. $66.45 (if you select free super saver shipping)
I found the information on the discount offering in a review that someone put up on Amazon.com and used the code myself to place a pre-order. I had been fence sitting on ordering and would rather have picked it up at a local Best Buy and gotten some RZ (Reward Zone) points for it, but not listing it at any sort of sale price (I have a feeling that the price in the sales sheet/weekly ad is typo'd and/or is missing the 'regularly $99, see real price by clicking here' type pricing) means no love for Best Buy this time.
I watched and enjoyed all of S1 myself, but my family didn't watch the series so this is more for them to see the series and hopefully catch up quickly. I'll watch the bonus features and extras myself too. Whether or not it's a long term keeper I'm not sure, but I know it would be a definite hassle to rent in HD from Netflix or Blockbuster.com, so I'd rather buy and lose a little on re-sale than have to wait forever for discs by mail.
Circuit City has absolutely no info on it at all on their .com site, and when I googled around a bit I saw where one Circuit City drone, uh, employee, seemed to think that Circuit City might not have the HD version at all.
Supposedly Wal-Mart.com has a decent price for it, but when I've gone to local stores and looked for either HD or Blu-ray content it's been a big disappointment. Target and their Blu-ray lovin' selfs certainly wouldn't get my money for this (unless they had some absolutely unbeatable price in stores).
I will say I love the cryin' among the Sony fan-boyz and galz about the lack of Blu-ray love for this and how they all hate Universal for being so darned stubborn about putting out in HD-DVD only. That whining started a long time back, but got even more interesting with the news that Paramount/Dreamworks are abandoning the Blu-ray ship in favor of HD.
