Just wanted to give thumbs up to Live Free or Die Hard, the latest installment in the Die Hard series.
I went and saw the movie this a.m. with a good friend and we both left the movie feeling like we'd seen a decent flick. Though the experience at the theatre wasn't that great as the movie house we went to seemed to be incapable of performing up to spec a few times (doors opened and/or left opened, house lights turned on in the middle of the movie, previews that didn't start on time because the projectionist hadn't gotten things ready or was having technical difficulties with the equipment, etc.), the movie was actually a fun thrill ride.
Yes there was plenty of completely unbelievable action and activities in the movie, but if you can check just enough of your brain cells at the door and suspend disbelief the movie is fun. A bit long at just over 2 hours, but fun.
For those worried about the ratings, the PG-13 seemed a little light to me, but apparently if you substitute explosions for bad words in just the right places, you can get a PG-13 instead of a R rating. (If you wonder how that works, take time to check out the excellent DVD rental of This Film is Not Yet Rated. It is a fascinating documentary look at the movie rating business.)
There are a few objectionable words, plenty of explosions and violence, and some humor and trade-mark lines from past Die Hard activities tossed in to keep the audience happy.
:big thumbs up from this reviewer:
