Woman was cited for a health code violation at a Burger King restaurant on Saturday as she returned unused ketchup packets she found in her home garbage can to the restaurant's condiment bin.
A questioning authority quoted her making the following statement: "I just can't bear to see perfectly good things go to waste. We live in such a wasteful society and I just wanted to do my part to reduce the amount of trash that gets sent to landfills every day. "
A family member (who wishes to remain anonymous) stated that the woman had become increasingly obsessed with recycling in recent months, spending inordinate amounts of time wrapping up boxes to contain recyclables to prevent neighborhood critters from interfering with them before collection day. "It had just gotten a little out of hand," he said, "she's been a bit obsessive."
The woman has been assigned to perform 40 hours of community service, which she is choosing to spend at a local recycling facility.
"Maybe I'll get it all out of my system there," she said.
