poison: LOL. I love crying pictures. Haha.
Marcie: Thanks. What a nice thing to say!

Terp: I had a neighbor tell me he didn't like scouting because they let gay people in now and because someone in his scout troop looked at him wrong during a tick check or something.
I'm not quite that paranoid. I think CS is good for the kids (and at this point in the game I'm with them at all their outings anyways).
The religious thing is kind of tricky. My husband and I are agnostic. We are not opposed to our kids being exposed to religion, but we would rather them not be indoctrinated.
Cub Scouts doesn't promote any one religion over another, but it does promote religion or a general belief in a creator or god that we owe gratitude and service to.
Everything below Webelo seems to allow a child to opt-out (although there are obvious references to god in the CS pledge, the Pledge of Allegiance, and some of their fun songs). I am still reading, but it looks like the opting out may not be available for my older child.
I will leave it up to him how he wants to handle the religious requirements.
I know your comment was a joke, haha, but those are my thoughts.
