Kinda funny if you think about it, people did the same thing when XP came out! "Oh its Terrible!" "Driver sucks!" "Its nothing but a bloated OS!" "Requires 256mb of ram?! Are they crazy?".

You can voice opinions?!...how'd you get that option. Is it a hidden feature of Stardock Central?   

You would have to think that it does, otherwise why release sales info without it. They are sold licenses as far as MS is counting.

My thoughts, it's five plus years since XP, more homes with multiple computers heck just more computers period out there. Is 40 million a number that bears a relationship to what XP did in the same time frame when it was released?

I agree with vStlyer, if Vista accounts for nearly 14%,(which means it was less than 14%) of traffic than non-Vista traffic is atleat 86% (more if you consider Vista was only nearly 14%) of traffic here. Uing numbers and percents always seen to lead to interpretations.

The other number shown was a important one also, more than 78% of licenses sold were Home Premium. Consumers not buying into pricey Ultimate.

Zommba here's a question that may be a little hard to answer. Can the 14% of Vista traffic on Wincutomize be broken down by what the traffic was about? Is it just looking at the forums or does in include Vista uploads and downloads?

Please, I'm not trying to be a wise a**, but it would be interesting to see what the traffic would identify. Do they show that people who have Vista are having no problems, minor problems or throwing up thier hands?

Why do I ask, well I have found it's much better to listen to the users of a product then the manufacture.  

I myself WILL NOT get Vista not because it looks cool,and it dose.
but because that Microsoft is not telling people that if you UPGRADE From XP or older then you will
have to go out and buy a new monitor, Graphics Card, new speakers, DVD, ect... as for the monitor and stuff
it is not or will not be compatible with Vista when they turn the Digital switch on in 2009.

It's a fact that Vista will inevitably take over, but there is a big problem with driver support, that is a fact. And as i'm a big online gamer, i took a look at vista to see how it differs from XP Pro. I must say we had a lot of bother installing Call Of Duty2, and Stalker was a pain in the ass, so until a few things are ironed out, and they will be just like XP was when it first hit the shelves, I myself won't be happily spending cash on it anytime soon

Really?..Hmmm well we had loads of probs with em, might be a conflicting Graf card or drivers for the graf card, ohh well you live n learn.

I'd really like to know the numbers on how many people actually went out and purchased Vista (take away OEM and free updates from recent hardware purchases), it would be great to know what people were upgrading from as well.

If you compare sales given the amount of PC's in use today compared to when XP was released I think XP would have been a stronger seller. I'm sticking with XP MCE, given it has media center and remote desktop I'd need to shell out for Vista Ultimate to get the same functionality and it just ain't worth the dollars!

well watt can I say,I have windows XP home edtion and its really good compatible with every drive,software,games,etc and also it has the much better wished suport we all need for the software.now if u compare the look of XP WITH VISTA then vista is 100% fresher and good looking,the onlly problem I see about vista its the availiability to get updates,and certain drive updates (as so many people are saying) but with everything comes a price to pay i supose!

I am really thinking of getting vista for the simple reason that for one,its looks cool and much easier to use for 2 it has the option of searching for any file u want from one location without much problems for 3 it has far more features than XP for the future computer needs as time goes by technology will be much more advanced and certain software or drives etc will require u too have vista or at least a certain mininum of spec.. not saying that everyone will go out and spend loads of cash on unessesay tech,but if u reall are into computers and all this new technology then its worth thinking about watt will come ahead and watt better way to prepare for it.

well thats my opinion i give XP 50% and vista 50% since they boths have good's and bad's

i am not ready to upgrade to vista just yet, as with all new O/S releases it takes time to work the bugs out, once the first couple of service packs appear they i will be considering it, but even then once i do i will be dual booting with windows XP.

With a bit of creative accounting i came to this conclusion

5 million copies of vista actually sold
10 million still sitting on shelves
10 million being installed on machines as we speak
5 million in computers on the shelf for sale
10 million pirated copies
= 40 million
by the time you read this, pirated copies will be at 11 million and counting
