As long as there is hateful fearmongering, people will be distracted by "Islam" and not face the fact that out of a billion or more Muslims worldwide, only a small minority does this. So long as they are so distracted, they'll never address the real problems.

When I read your title, I wondered what Sting was doing investigating hate, jihad, and violence... not that he hasn't crusaded against that sort of thing in the past, but I'd prefer for him to be working on a new album for now.

I don't think they say enough either. That said, what did you do to condemn the slaughter of Muslims by Serbs? How many of us made an effort to get out there and condemn the Prods or Catholics every time they blew someone up in Ireland?

When Muslims DO comment, it isn't enough for us unless they condemn their RELIGION. If we HAD commented on Ireland or Bosnia, would it have been to condemn the religion, or the people? Would we have vilified Catholicism? We don't, why should they?

I think it is a witch hunt, too, because like witch hunts it seeks to vilify something that isn't the problem. If the problem was Islam, then their rhetoric would take hold just as well with American Muslims as anyone else. The fact is, it doesn't

If it did, we wouldn't need to import crazies from the Middle East, and the few crazies we have wouldn't have to head to Muslim nations to get support and training. If Islam were the soil, the problem would exist wherever there is Islam. That's not how it works, though, because without ties to places like the Middle East and Central Asia Islamic fundamentalism rots on the vine.

So, regardless of such witch hunts, the point just ain't getting made. I knew a LOT of Muslim fundamentalists in college. There were among them people that I would consider, literally, evil people. Not your garden variety frat boys, lemme tell ya, when they showed pictures of the 19, I expected to recognize at least one or two.

BUT... those people could not exist here. This place was toxic to them. They didn't even get along with their fellow Muslims, even the ones who had originally come from the Middle East. If Islam was the problem, that wouldn't have been so.

Hooey, indeed. Almost every major Muslim group releases a statement condemning attacks when they occur. You don't bother to look. For their part, they say the same things when we spend time condemning Muslims and ignoring atrocities against Muslims.

Exist, only. Not thrive, not spread. Like I said, if Islam were the culprit, they wouldn't need to go to the Middle East or Central Asia for aid and comfort. Therefore the problem isn't here. Since Islam is, Islam isn't the problem.

It's just common sense. There are millions of Muslims in the US. More Muslims here than in Gaza for God's sake. Do you realize the utter horror show terrorism would be here if what you say was true?

But, when folks want to fly planes into buildings here, they have to sneak around. They can't rely on the Muslim mainstream here, and they're lucky to even recruit a few nuts. When they need money and training, they head overseas, despite the presence of millions of Muslims here.

There are FAR more Christian militants in America than Muslim. Christianity to blame?
