I understand your statement and how you may be offended by my statement. Look at it from my side of the coin.
When I was a Democrat back in the 60's and 70’s I was told that Republicans were racist and the Democratic Party was our only hope for racial equality. I learned this from my democratically controlled family. It was not until I started looking into racism did I find out that I and my elders were being conned. The big lie was being told by the Democrats. In the Deep South you could not be elected without the KKK, the KKK was a mostly Democratic leaning organization. Historically only one high level Republican was a member of the KKK while he was in office, he was a Governor of Illinois back in the 20’s he was later arrested stripped of his office and sent to jail for rape and attempted murder as well as financial irregularities. On the Democratic side you had every southern democrat was an active member of the KKK. To be fair some northern Democrats were against racism, but only to a point. What I have learned over the years is that racial tension has been used by the Democratic Party as a tool to retain power rather than something that needed to be eradicated. The mass race riots of 1910, 1960, and 1965 are proof that the problems were never addressed, just promised. The legislation enacted did more to harm race relations than help. Things such as racial quotas only made racial separation a more glaring problem. The decision to put colored people in positions of prominence was a seriously bad idea that we are still forced to live with. It is called tokenism, how am I going to gain respect when the liberals insist on racial quotas? Look at the idiots put in positions they had no business being in simply because they are colored. It makes for great photo op’s but did even more damage. Tokenism is racism; it is a protective shield for racist liberals. Let one in put him in a glass room so all can see you have your token Negro and you don’t have to be forced to be around more of them. The Republicans had it right from the start. Earn your way and you get respect. With the Democrats even if you earn your place in line it is not good enough because they already have their token in place. The rush to show racial diversity they did not bother to demand qualifications just colour. This put idiots, incompetents, and people out of their depth in prominent places where they will fail prominently. The Democratic Party looked upon coloreds as inferior pets that needed to be taken care of. I have never had that feeling with the Republican Party. Look at the battle for the minority leader of Congress. Harold Ford and Nancy Pelosi wanted the job. Mr. Ford had the votes to win but was talked out of it. It was not his time is the usual statement used. We need to make a statement to women voters was the excuse I have heard many times. When a black Democrat runs for office in a racially mixed area the party always backs the white candidate against the black one. I have never seen this in the Republican Party. The example being a black man running for Governor of New York had is money pulled out in mid campaign sighting that he could not win so why waist the money. The money went to a white candidate that also failed to win.
The only time Democrats as a party are interested in race relations is during and election year where we receive promises of better relations. They get our votes and nothing is done. The last time the Democrats tried to do something to help it was Mr. Lyndon Johnson an admitted racist at one time push through legislation that tried but failed to help. I am tired of hearing, “Well at least we tired.” In the 60’s blacks became the largest race on welfare. In the 70’s blacks were becoming generational welfare recipients. Then in the 80’s when the Republicans were trying to get people off welfare they were accused of being racist. Welfare was designed to help people bridge the gap between jobs not a job you pass on to your children. When I asked about this in the 70’s I was told that “some people” can’t handle the work force and need help to survive. They came up with a new program for job loss called unemployment benefits. The original program of welfare was supposed to do that. Keep families broken and dysfunctional seems to be the goal of welfare. When the Republicans cut welfare down to only people that needed it to survive instead of anyone that does not want to work, the response again was that it was racist against blacks because they are the majority race on welfare and it would cause economic trouble with all those poor people without jobs or any opportunities. The Republican belief is that if you give people a chance they will usually succeed. Welfare has been cut for almost a decade now and the masses out of work begging for food did not happen as the Democrats predicted. I guess stupid black people can make it in the work force. Liberal Democrats have spent years telling me and others we can’t make it without their continued help and assistance so we better elect more Democrats to protect us poor ignorant people.
When Republicans started putting blacks in prominent positions in government the only qualification was can they do the job. Colin Powel for example; Mr. Reagan’s national security advisor. Then he was appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Then appointed to be Secretary of State. Positions earned not handed out. Dr. Condoleezza Rice became national security advisor, people on the left said it was a token appointment to get blacks and women to vote for Mr. Bush. Forget the fact that she is a leading authority on international relations, well respected in and out of government as well as in the world. Republicans don’t use tokenism they seem to surround themselves with the most qualified people they can find as opposed to people to fill quotas to look good. Sorry for the rant but it seems I still feel some personal dislike for how I was treated in the Democratic Party.
