If we can't let go of it, it may be an addiction. |
It has become as much an addiction and necessity as cell phones. When I see people swerving all over the road while they are talking on a cell, I recall the days when we had no such device at our disposal. We didn't NEED it. Hell, we looked forward to that weekend of camping when we could escape our landline phones. What happened?
And then, I see the people at Starbucks and Barnes And Noble with their laptops. What the hell? Are they just posing? The funniest thing is, we cling to them so much we shut off the outside world. Then, we take them with us into the outside world and beg you to stay back. 'Don't get that close. It's mine, my business, my private world, back off.'
It's beyond addiction. We have been led like lemurs to believe we can't exist without it. And we accept it. The only reason we bitch about it is to reinforce our own denial.
I shouldn't have said lemurs. More like a herd of cattle with hoof n' mouth. Cause in the end, we're gonna pay for it in a big way. The answer? Unfortunately, it won't be as simple as 'wiping that white foam off your mouth' (Bill Cosby). How many times have my wife and I said we would diet together and one of us doesn't or falls off and the other follows? Human ambition is like what this bozo wants to do with the internet and what half a dozen other nutbags wanna do...it's full of good intentions but too often, it's short sighted.
In the very end, those five servers would become three, then two, then one. 'The Terminator' and half a dozen other movies don't seem so far fetched all of the sudden. If I had to pick one as the best example of where it would all lead, it would have to be 'Brazil'.
