And continued........Conveniently forgetting the rudeness of his response? |
What are you talking about Dr.Guy? Your source doesn't continue to discuss Webb's response any further than what Davad said.
Bush was completely and totally out of line to ask about his son in "small talk" at this function. Being from the social elite, he should have been well aware of the mistake he was making (particularly when his own two charming daughters are making a spectacle of themselves in South America). Senator-elect Webb handled the situation (from everything I've read) as Miss Manners would have recommended.
As for the full transcript--here's what Wonkette is citing from the Washington Post:
Here’s the paper’s version of the exchange:
“How’s your boy?” Bush asked, referring to Webb’s son, a Marine serving in Iraq.
“I’d like to get them out of Iraq, Mr. President,” Webb responded, echoing a campaign theme.
“That’s not what I asked you,” Bush said. “How’s your boy?”
“That’s between me and my boy, Mr. President,” Webb said coldly, ending the conversation on the State Floor of the East Wing of the White House
