Now why did I write this post ? Call it my blood-and guts issue trying to release all the pent-up rage and frustration with everything’s that’s been currently happening in the least harmful way I think it could be released and it revolves around an imagined scenario:
Imagine you are the security-cleared, officially designated Chef in charge of handling meals and dinners for UN guests, prominent among them, of course,(and with equal controversy) would be Mahmoud Amedinejad, President of Iran. You could include Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela, (another controversial figure) just to up the ante on the degree of care you, as Chef, would have to plan their menu.
Before his appearance at UN and interviews before US television audience, Amedinajad , notorious for his statement about wiping Israel off the map and calling the Holocaust a myth, struck me as a man with a large disconnect with reality. At that time, my imagined menu was spinach as entree’ – you know that popular stuff that we got off the grocery stands, freshly packed and organic which was such a hit that it downed the spinach-eating populations from both coasts. Of course, to pass the strict security requirements, the spinach would have to pass Pentagon-designated laboratories’ evaluations, just to be sure the spinach is laced with the right kind of strain (?), which is really the secret to its delectable taste.
For the main dish, I was thinking of tenderized thigh of (mad) cow with olives, mushrooms, Chi-Chi’s onions and basil mixed with grounded (mad) cow bone marrow as its sauce.
Now, after listening to both men , and Pres. Bush, I’m beginning to think there ought to be more venues like the UN General Assembly where we could size up close (for the moment, at least) how our perceived enemies think and how far and from where the disconnect really is .
Now, I sort of modify my scenario to: “Let me replace that spinach with this Mac Donald’s cheeseburger... It's suppose to prevent foot-in-mouth disease which is spreading .. Vatican, being the latest casualty” or “ While we’re waiting for your antidote, Mr. President, which is due any minute, let’s talk about your country’s … nuclear options…”
What we witnessed at the recent UN meeting was less of a clash of ideologies than it was more of a rallying cry for southern have-not countries, and if you look at the globe, there are a lot of them. For that rallying cry to be led by controversial figures (above aforementioned) within the Non-Aligned Movement is worrisome for me. Would this be the start of so-called North-South War or WWIII in the so-much ballyhooed prophetic quatrains ? Imagine having the whole of South America against the US. Lump to this the changing tenor and support of France and Britain among EU countries and the growing anti-US sentiment among the Arab countries and this doesn’t make Americans feel safe.
Anyway, knowing all these now and going back to my scenario, the question really elicits a lot of answers pregnant with the differing views of the political spectrum we have here at JU : Would you serve Amedinajad Spinach ? What would be your menu ? How would you go about it?
