I'm so happy to see someone, anyone, taking the lead in this area.
Mail-in rebates have frustrated me for years. So many organizations count on people being drawn in by the advertised prices with the little asterisks and the small print noting that the price is after mail-in rebate. Many of those same organizations also count on the idea that idiots will lose the supporting paperwork (receipts, rebate forms, etc.) or not pay enough attention to other small print the puts restrictions on the rebate programs and prevent customers from being able to take advantage of the offers. And finally, there's the problem of going out and spending say $799 to buy something that is $499 after rebates only to have to wait 6 - 12 weeks for the rebate of the already spent and committed $300, which, oh by the way, doesn't even include the taxes paid on the $799 price rather than the $499 price.
End 'em all and just drop the darned prices already. If you want to put something on sale, drop the prices immediately and let the stores/vendors deal with the rebate hassles rather than pushing the problems on to us, the customers. Watch the cash registers ring up increased sales when customers have more money left in their pockets.
A win for everyone for sure.
Now, where's my closest OfficeMax store? I have some shopping to do!
