A plea to Stardock (GalCiv Dev Group)

With GC2 obviously exceeding all of your expectations commercially (you've said as much), please do keep your "feet on the ground". I trust you will keep a perspective on what has got you there in the first place. You have provided great support so far with this game, and have shown a refreshing willingness to interact with your customers. Your developers have given us frequent beta updates (To make your game better. More sales anyone? ), answered our questions, and generally provided great after sales support.

New offices and a larger workforce is great, but to cut it short : DON'T turn into some sort of UBISOFTGOODFERNOTHINSHITINC type of company.

Bought Galciv 1 & 2..will buy more if you carry on doing what you are doing!

Why can't I get the phrase *Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.* out of my head?

Ah well if they all become soulless corporate pawns more worried about the latest blockbuster clone rather then truely great games we can all sit back and say *yep I remember when there were still companies that cared more about making a game fans want rather then pandering to the board room execs*.

I don't think we have anything to worry about. Somehow I just can't picture Brad & Co. letting the success of GC2 go to their heads.

Great post, and I couldn't agree more with what you're trying to say.

It's so truly refreshing to be playing a product that is so well supported. Especially in this day and age. Stardock could make anything after GalCiv2 now, and I'd pay for it. Anything. Hell I'm not really a fan of turn-based, but I bought this product after having heard how good this company was, and I'm glad I did.

The journal page is just fantastic. How about Draginol's HUGE post about the AI and the game he had on Friday? He actually sounds like a gamer. As I said, so refreshing. These guys seem to be doing what they love, whereas most of the others are just in it for the money.

I am so big on post-release support. Most companies just can't see it, but if you stand by your products, your customers will stand by you. It's going to be a while before I pick up anything done by EA or Atari, because they care more about their shareholders than they do about their customers.

Yeah, just keep on doing what you're doing Stardock. Don't become like the others, please.

Yeah! When the "suits" out number the devs, that's when we need to worry.

The GalCiv team have always given good support for the series and i'm not surprised at all that this has continued with V2, but with this new release taking off in the way that it has, i'm a little bit sceptical on how they will go about things in the future.

Personally, i'm not interested in Stardocks corporate side of things. I just like the games they develop.

haha power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely, but rocks absolutely too. check out despair.com and look for their power poster, funny stuff. those posters strike me as the kind stardock would have hanging all over their buildings

The quote's actually that power tends to corrupt therefore absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely. So Stardock isn't doomed afterall.

I for one look forward to the day when I must start each day by swearing featly to the invincible corporate overlords of Stardock. I say that for delivering such a quality game at a reasonable price, that they should very rightly bask in their hard won glory, and that we would do well to acknowledge that greatness.
