Long and short positions on cross pairs can have different pip values under certain conditions depending on how the pair is structured and whether the currencies involved create an asymmetry in the calculation. Most of the time the difference is negligible but on some pairs it is worth checking explicitly rather than assuming symmetry.  allows you to specify trade direction and the calculation reflects the correct values for each direction which means any asymmetry is visible in the output rather than hidden by a simplified calculation that treats long and short as identical.
