Recent Fences 4 Update - constant issues - need to keep re-installing.

Issues every day, with the recent fences v4 update. Fences don't load, when try to start using .exe, error is - "Fences does not appear to be loaded / You may need to re-install fences."

Win 11 Pro 64bit (25H2) - i7 - 8750H / 16GB RAM

  • Reinstalled multiple times.
  • NUKED and re-installed, fixes issue for a day or two, then issue returns.
  • This file "drop.win32.RegStartupSelfCopy.52386166" is quarantined in Surf shark antivirus - I remove from quarantine, reboot and still same issue

I feel that the update was simply a nudge / ploy to get me to buy a subscription, the latest revision, as it was working fine for years prior to these issues.

Any help appreciated.

What happens when you turn off your AV software? Seem that you get a false positive.

And tbh, get rid of any payed av software. It is snake oil full of useless and sometimes dangerous bloatware to justify the price they are asking for. Windowws defender does an excellent job.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. First, do check if your installed Fences is set to startup twice in your task manager->Startup tab: Refer here: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1331232868/Fences+is+not+starting+after+boot. Check those specially when it not working again, perhaps, there is something in your system that disable the startup. Check that and report back.

Many thanks, the AV sw comes packaged with Surfshark and does a half decent job. yes, I have disabled it and still lose my fences every 2 to 3 days, then need to nuke & re-install
