I recently restored my Fences layout (from two months ago), but I am unsure if these issues were present between September and now. I also updated Fences 6 to the latest version. I suspect this is a Fences 6 issue rather than my system’s issue, since I was able to go back to Fences 5 and not have the issues I describe below. Also, on my system, when attempting to update to Fences 6, the Stardock Object Desktop will indefinitely “download” Fences 6, but no progress will be made. This can be bypassed by downloading the Fences 6 installer directly from the site.
Current OS: Windows 11 24H2
Current Issue 1:
When clicking on the desktop and beginning to type an icon's name, it will navigate to the nearest icon match, but there will only be a visual indication that an icon was selected if the icon was already visible without scrolling the group further. If the icon is further down in a group, such that one would need to scroll to visually find it, the icon will be highlighted, but the group will not auto-adjust or auto-scroll the view to show which icon is currently selected.
Example for Issue 1:
Suppose I have a Fence Group with a size of 2x2, and there are 10 icons in this Group. Only the first four icons will be visible. Icons 5-10 are only visible once I begin scrolling. If I am looking for the 7th icon and begin typing the 7th icon's name while only the first four icons are visible, the 7th icon will be highlighted, but the group will not adjust the view (by auto-scrolling) and allow me to see which icon was selected. I can, however, see the icon being selected if I scroll down the group to have the 7th icon visible.
Current Issue 2:
When using the arrow keys to navigate a group, only the visible icons within the group will allow me to navigate them/select them. Any icons that can only be accessed if I scroll the group further will not be selected by the arrow key inputs. Instead, the selection bubble will disappear as if I had selected an icon and clicked an empty spot on the desktop.
Example for Issue 2:
Suppose I have a Group with a size of 2x2, and there are 10 icons in this Group. Only the first four icons will be visible. Icons 5-10 are only visible once I begin scrolling. If I use the mouse and select the first icon in the group, then click the down arrow key one time, the selection bubble will move to the icon below the first one. This is the expected behavior; however, if I click the down arrow key one more time, attempting to select an icon that is out of view, the selection bubble will disappear from the group (as if I had clicked away). Pressing the up key 2 times will not bring the selection bubble back.
I thought of reporting these issues. If this is an issue with my system, please let me know what troubleshooting steps I can take. As mentioned before, Fences 5 works fine. It is Fences 6 that is having this issue, and I do not recall having this issue when I had Fences 6 installed between 04/2025 and 09/2025.
