Several Questions on Fences 6?

Pages? Desktops? Alt key?

I'm running Windows 11 24H2, Start 11 2, and Fences 6.   

I had a problem with Fences 4.22 where if I just press any Alt key by itself, it would Show ALL of my Fences and Portals until I let the key go.  I was trying to press Alt + Right Arrow to switch to the next desktop, but it would not work, I believe because of this...   I see no key assignment for the Alt key alone in the Fence Shortcuts?  I did add an Icon, a Fence, and a Folder Portal to the second desktop, like the help file said.  It did not help.  So, what is causing this??  Also, when I press Alt + Right/Left Arrow it toggles all fences to stay visible.  I have to press Alt by itself again to toggle them all back to default/off.

1) So, I upgraded to Fences 6 today, and it still is happening.  How can I fix this?

2) I noticed an option to Show a fence/portal only on 1 desktop, not all desktops, but I cannot find it now.  Can you tell me where that setting is, and how it works.  Is it for All fences on a desktop, or a per Fence option?  I just want different fences on different desktops.

3) What is the difference between Windows Desktops and Fence's Pages?  Are they the same thing?  Do they conflict somehow?

4) Dragging the desktop from the edge, using the Alt+Mousewheel, using both mouse button dragging do not work to switch desktops.

Argg..  I hope you will help with this.  And provide any links with further information?  That would be awesome!

About 20 minutes after the above post things seemed to start working.  No reboot or anything..

1) Very strange, but the Alt+Left/Right started to work switching desktops suddenly. 

2) Before, all of my fences/portals showed on All desktops too.  And now they don't.   And I did find the 'Show on All Pages' option in the Fence's View menu.

 

3) Still would like to understand if the Windows Desktops & Fences Desktop Pages are the same thing, or just work together?

No, Windows Desktop is not the same as Fences Pages. You can have multiple Fences pages on Single Windows Desktop or Multiple one.

This action should work by default, only when you have something within your other Fences page. If nothing on that page, Fences will removed that page automatically. Hence you can not change between pages since it no longer there. Dragging an icon or a Fence over to your left or right most edge of your combine screens will automatically create a new Fences page, if there is no page on that location.

I can only see this happening if you set your Fences to be Visible only on mouseover. 

If you wish not to have that, you should try using the "Hide" option instead.

Thanks for the great explanations basj!  I have turned on Hide, and set all fences to 100% opacity.

The only way I could get the Alt key to stop fully showing all fences was to set every individual fence to 100% Opacity.  Which I don't want...  I liked them individually appearing from 20% opacity to full when I mouse over.

And then, in Personalization, the Transparency slider does not work with 'All Groups', so I still cannot adjust their transparency.
However, even with all individual fences/portals set to 100% opacity, they are still about 50% transparent.  

And I cannot find anything in the documentation about the Alt Hotkey.  Or any other hotkeys for that matter(except for Peek)...  If Alt is an undocumented hotkey, are there others?

Thanks.  I'll post a pic of the transparent fences and the 'All Groups' personalization transparency slider of full solid.  I can slide it all the way back and forth and it has no effect on transparency.

I did just notice that the All Groups transparency slider does work on the fences I created on my 2nd 'Page'.  Except ones from the 1st page that were set to Show on all pages.  Those don't change..  

Besides the above...

I guess basically, I would like to not have the Alt key Show all fences.  Or an option to turn the Alt key off, or reassign it?  Currently every time I use the Alt key on the desktop my fences Flash!  I have mouse buttons and macros that use the Alt key...  Maybe, in the future, don't use Modifier keys hard-coded into your programs?
