To respond generally, Stardock makes great apps. They have very good support and developer interaction in the forums. In the past they have fallen behind on documentation and suite integration. Part of that is due to the fact that the apps are designed to be seperate purchases as well as part of a suite. It's harder to code for both and please everyone. I agree that more could be done.
Specifically:
1) Bootskin works for lots of people. Why should those people lose out because it doesn't work for some people. The one suggestion I would make is to modify either the installer or the first run dialog to post a warnign and instructions on how to recover if it fails.
2) Send an email to
[email protected] with the URL and the error. They may not have been aware.
3) If you go to https://www.stardock.com/support/ and enter the email you used to purchase cxp+ it will send you a link to download teh plus version.
4) Do you have the SDCtray running? It's an optional install and run. It phones home to see if any apps have been updated.
5) Been running DX for years. No errors. If it happened to more people, it'd be all over the forums. Next time it happens email
[email protected] or go to https://www.stardock.helpserve.com and report your problem there. You can also install SmartException (from SDC Free Stuff). It captures many of the Stardock app crashes and makes it easy to send good reports to SD.
6) Agreed.
As a long time user, I've grown used to the quirkiness of the site(s), apps, support, etc. But the value of the products and the people are worth far more than I've paid. Stardock has made working at my PC more peasent and productive.
I am very glad that you took the time to post here though. Sometimes we forget how confusing this all can be and how new users react. Thanks.
[And stick around . . the community here at wincustomize.com (or maybe you posted this at stardock.com) is filled with wonderful people that will be happy to help you get everything running like you want]
