Robert,

If you are wondering why noone has said anything on this, well, I have to admit being confused, and I have no doubt that the Stardock people will be confused as well.

1). The debug file you posted here looks like the one from your Drengin.net folder and shows a successful download and install of Galciv. Galciv has its own debug file (look in Galciv's directory).

2). Your thread title just said you had a crash with 4B. I would have to assue you mean Galciv 4B simply because that is consistant with the current build of Galciv, but if I was trying to diagnose your problem I would have to make sure you had not confused the build level of Galciv with the build level of the DGM (it is also still in pre-release status, but has a different build level).

3). You did not describe anything about the circumstances surrounding the crash. Also, the announcement for the availability of build Beta 4B includes a link to a very useful tool called SmartException that captures crash data and produces a report file that can be clipped and posted here. This report provides essential details that aid in discovering the cause of the crash, and some basic system information that could be important in some crash locations, such as code for sound or display operations.

Rather than start my own thread, I'll add on here. I had a game on 4A that was an 18x18 galaxy that was well into the end game. I had over 300 ships and dominated, although 4 of the major aliens were still hanging on. The game hit a hard lockup, I could not even ctl-alt-delete out of it. I downloaded 4B, and after loading the game I got the tech completed window, hit "done", and then got this CTD:

I also tried to restart on 4B a gigantic galazy game I had saved on 4A and had it crash. I tried a number of the saves of that game and they all crashed. I think the problem is that the new galaxy sizes causes an incompatability such that the differences in galaxy sizes for the same galaxy size "name" causes the access violation.

Also, even though the reminder may be reasonable, I think the Stardock people are aware that lack of upward compatiblity for saved games in post release upgrades can easily become a very sensitive issue. I think they did a good job of being aware of this in GC/OS2 and expect them to do well with GC/win.
