The problem with Windows XP 64-bit is that less than .21% of our user base has 64-bit Windows XP.  But the QA and support time for another platform is significant.

I can't say we won't ever support x64 on XP but it's not likely to happen in the near term.

64-bit Vista we do support, however.

If XP x64 support does not come very soon, I will not renew Object Desktop any more.

Though it pains me to say it, Vista x64 is just better than XP x64. I ran XP x64 for a few months before deciding to test Vista and though I assumed the opposite before I started, Vista x64 (Ultimate) is just a more complete OS. I guess XP x64 suffered from too small a user base and hence too little support from MS. Compared to Server 2003 I'd easily go with 2003, which is great as an ultra-stable, very fast and very responsive gaming workstation, but of course WB isn't supported under that.

I can't say I'm not disappointed, but it does make sense.

A couple of questions:

I imagine WB5.5 will be phased out of support soon. Can you release a fixed build for XP x64? The current one requires a hack of copying the wbload.dll from the trial edition. I thought perhaps it had been corrected, but I downloaded a fresh copy of WB5.5 yesterday and it was still broken.

Is there any possibility of an unsupported XP x64 release for WB6.0? Ie, "We made it build, but if it doesn't work don't ask us to fix it."

The reason I ask about the latter is that it is a bit of a let down for recent WB5 purchasers like myself who expected (as documented by the web site...) an upgrade to WB6 when purchasing. WB5 is OK, but it means all 32-bit and Vista users that purchased at the same time, say 2 weeks ago, get 52 weeks of upgrades and support, and all XP x64 users got 2 weeks.

shadowalker, if you have vista64 in the drawer, install it! i'm using it and wb6 works great on it.

It doesn't though, or rather it doesn't work as intended at least. I can't actually remember what was wrong, seeing as it's a good while since I used 2003, but I posted here at the time with whatever the problem was. Never got it to work correctly, so I went with StyleXP instead.

As for using 2003 as a workstation, there's a number of excellent guides out there on how to set it up correctly. That taken care of it's more responsive than XP, less resource hungry, easily as stable as Vista and if it wasn't for a few program incompatibilities (like WB) I'd be using it still. I'd recommend it to anybody not interested in Vista still to be honest.

Staying with the server theme; will WB work under Server 2008 when its out? I assume so given 2008 will be almost identical with Vista x64, but it'd be nice to hear it from the horse's mouth....

Agrippa: I have actually seen WindowBlinds 6 running without an issue on a number of 2k3 server machines here.

If in the future you do decide to set aside StyleXP, give WB(6) another try and still have problems, feel free to post here in the forums or shoot an email to support@stardock.com and we can likely get things going for you.

They all play fine, that is with ATi of course.

I tried XP X64 briefly. Overall I agree with the many reviews in the fact that its buggy & seems to be awefully rushed in its release. Vista x64 just seems more well done. I never have any problems and I am quite satisfied with it.

Vista for crappy beta drivers and the worst dx i´ve ever seen? No way to switch to vista in the moment. The Customers have paid for it, so support the x64 on ALL OS. Where is the last WB 5 Client to download? Not all Objekt Desktop User run Vista x 64? Think about it.

PS: Dont talk about Fanboy shit @ Vista.

Contact support@stardock.com and they can get you a V5 if you are registered to have that.A company is not obligated to support every OS.  If you bought WB5 and it works, then you are fine; you got what you paid for.  If you subscribe to ODNT then you have to live with the fact that some apps end of life at a certain point or that you will have to upgrade your OS at some point to maintain the benefits.  

If you are runnign XP64 it's not news to you that you were in a minority.  There's a certain cool factor there and there were some benefits . .  but those are going to be eroded as time goes on.  You might wnat to hang out with the early iPhone adopters.  They share your pain (from a slightly different perspective).
