Min Requirements / Performance Target

The Stardock connection brought me to SoASE. GalCiv2 is a great game. And it happens to run on my AMD64 single-core laptop quite well. Homeworld 2 and the SW:EAW also run passably well, despite the Radeon X200 video (never go there! geforce2go all the way!). Is there any hope that this game will run on my notebook? I'm sure it's too early to peg down a *real* minimum requirements, but what sort of platform are you targeting; and how much effort are you preparing to devote to testing and tuning on lower-end platforms?

man, that would really be awesome.
as awesome as being blessed by a genie with a thousand wishes (and even more unlikely)
of course, that quantum processor would be the first wish I use up.

Hopefully the Radeon X 200 will be supported because I really want to play this sort of game on my laptop too.

I think Zoomba was running it on an X200 but don't quote me.  So far it does run on a Radeon X600.

I've got an X600 in my office machine and a 7800GS at home.  It ran surprisingly well on the X600.

Even though the beta is non-optimised and unofficial lists tend to run rampant
buuuuut, you could atleast tell us what shader support we need, and what kind of [insert videocard/memory stuff here]? Just a guesstimate. 1gb? 2gb? 4gb of memory?

It's safe to assume sins will make full use of dualcores at least? as the supcom beta doesn't, and running on 2.2ghz instead of 4.4 is a pain in the ass.

So, if it runs on x600's (asuming it's still off-the-shelf) that will mean you need about:

4 pixel pipelines
shader 2.0
256mb video memory
500mhz gpu/ 370mhz mem

the real question is of course, what rig did you use for the screenies? and what were the FPS on it?

It really depends on what you want to see, the Iron Engine is quite scalable. You have the option to drop the video settings very very low and if your card doesn't support a certain feature, it uses fallbacks (cheap imitations of the real thing). Pixel shader 2 is not required, but the game will look much better with it.

The actual requirements for the game are not yet set in stone so can't say much on that. The beta will certainly help narrow this down more accurately.

Here is what I can say:

Our accountant plays with an accountant machine which has a 2ghz cpu, 512 ram and some crappy integrated motherboard video card with no fancy features (certainly not pixel shader 2.0). It doesn't look anywhere near as nice as on my machine, but she can play the game just fine and infact, sometimes kick our butts

The screenshots were taken on a machine using a geforce 6600gt (128mb), 2.53ghz cpu and 1gig of ram. I can't remember the FPS for that specific machine but I think you could play full multiplayer at relatively high detail settings, if not full.

Finally, we haven't haven't done a lot of optimization so expect things to improve over the beta.

I suppose my system of 3.6 ghz, 2gb of ram and sadly fx5200 256mb Pci video card could run the game? If it can, I'm still getting the 7800. I have the 5200 because im cheap and it seems to run all the games I have fine, but that could just be the rest of my pc compensating for its crap.

lol , the 7800gt will be fine . Infact im sure with that card you can play with everything high.

Ive got two PCs , one with a X850XT which should be fine , but one with a X200 which should be as good as an intergrated one that accountant has. I reckon that this game might also appeal to a more adult market who have intergrated graphic laptops.

ok i might have 1 problem with mines. sorry if i'm not too good with cpus but so far i upgraded my gc to 7600geforce agp, running on 1.8ghz cpu mb, 2 512ram or 1GB of ram, xp sp2 version 2002 :_).

my question is that will my 1.8GHz mb have any downfalls of any of the current specification for sins? or will i be fine with my current version?

I must say that I really don't care how much downgraded the graphics on my computer must be to run the game, as long as it doesn't affect the gameplay (AI). As far as this is true for strategy games I'm not even considering a new computer.

I don't think "8800 GTX" and "cheap" will go together anytime soon.    The only other competitive card would be coming from ATI/AMD, but it's not been announced yet. I suspect it'll be in the same general price range, however.

A new budget range of 8X00 series cards is going to be released somwhere in march april. They are somewhat cheapish. Ranging from 99 (8300) to 299 (8600). Ati should release their R600 series of cards at the same time so there should be some price drops. Don't expect to pick up a 8800 cheaply before than because it will remain the fastes single non-overclocked card on the market.

But if you do get the money, the 8800GTX is an amazing card. I've never seen such a preformance increase in any graphics card i've ever bought.
