Advice?

I know this is pretty useless asking for advice on preordering GalCiv2, but none-the-less I still welcome it.

This is my situation. I preordered Civ4 over a month and anticipation started kicking in. Now living in South Africa I had to fork out quite a bit for S/H, but I was prepared to do so anyhow.
I get it 4 days after its release to firstly find out I have the French Tech Tree...okay that's no problem. Once I finished installing it says I haver the wrong CD in to play with...so they swapped labeling, still forgivable. Once the game starts the intro movie is laggy...I'm still fine with that afterall I did buy the game purely for gameplay and NOT graphics.
Start the actual game and then my problems occur...Chesire Bug, Black Terrain, PAINFULLY slow movement across the map i.e. UNPLAYABLE.
I look to the Civfanatics forums and find that I'm not the only one encountering these issues. The technical thread on Civfanatics is the second largest one of the Civ4 Threads!! Clearly people are miffed because majority easily had the system requirement only to be screwed over when the game was released....did you know that once the game was released they actually changed the requirements? How can you do that?!

Right...now that that's over I ask you:
I have a 2.4 Ghz Celeron
768 Mb Ram
ATI RADEON IGP345M Graphics Card

Will I be able to play GalCiv2 without any hassle? I have heard stories that Civ4 seriously starts lagging (regardless of the system being used) in late game stages. IS this encountered in GalCiv2?

Basically I am prepared to do the pre-order thing now, however once bitten twice shy. And February is far from now and in all honesty I would like to contribute to the final stages of the development.

PS If I buy it now, can I get an immediate download?

I know that a 2.4 Ghz, 512 MB Ram, NVidia GeForce had no trouble running GC2. Considering how many beta testers have ATI cards, you should be alright to run GC2.

Your problems with Civ4 are definately due to (for it) slow processor, low RAM (it needs a full Gig), and the fact you have an ATI card. Upgrading your ATI's drivers to the latest should/might fix your black terrain issues. As for your other issues... well, faster CPU and more RAM memory is what's required. It's irritating, but the game's listed recommended specs are too low to meet it's actual minimum. Too bad for Civ fans.

P.S. Yes, you get in soon. I don't know if you'd have immediate access to the current beta (4b), or if you'd have to wait for the next build (4c). But you'd certainly be granted access quickly, judging from past Star Dock performance on GC2.

Well truth be told I only played Civilization 3 two years after its release, so may as well wait a bit until I can Civ 4 then...although that preorder rubbish has miffed me (and many other Civ fans) off.
Very tempted to buy the preorder...will probably bring in my laptop tomorrow to work and start the download.
